Hi i have a corsiar tx 650w psu. its recently started making an annoying buzzing sound. does this mean its on its last legs?
How long have you had it? It might be on the way out, but my colleague had the same with the HX750. If he turned on wake up on lan on in the BIOS, it stopped buzzing
almost 2 years i think. its not constant its intermittent and mostly not there. I was alt tabbing between web and a game and it started buzzing when i tabbed to the game and stopped when i tabbed out. Its not making any sound now....?
Well it comes with a 5 year warranty, maybe get in touch with Corsair and see if they think it'll be eligible for RMA? A fault, even intermittent, is a fault.
If you do send it back, I have a PowerCool 650W that powered my sig rig for well over a year. I know it's basically unbranded but it could tide you over. You could have it for a tenner? Is it definitely the power supply? Not the graphics card or anything?
Couple of options, bank transfer or post me a cheque/tenner But before we go exchanging things, it'd be worth seeing if it's even eligible for RMA. And it fit is definitely your PSU and if you can repeat the sound.
Before RMA, rule that out. If buzz was present in the game you might be playing without Vsync. It could also happen if you use frontal audio jacks. Turn off your speakers and check. Anyway, i think i remember reading about some VGAs squeaking under load so you should double check the source of the noise just to be sure...
i am using the front audio jacks for my carcharias why does that make it buzz? Also it hasnt buzzed in the past 5 hours or so
i had one mate that buzzed like that - gave it to a mate whose an electrician, and he tested the outputs for me - Basically one of the three thingys that makes 'puter work wasnt working and thus was throwing out massive spikes in voltage. RMA it.
I had my Corsair 650W PSU only 6 weeks before it started buzzing and soon afterwards it went up in smoke (thickest smoke I've ever seen a PSU go up in) so potentially it's on it's last legs. Still waiting for my replacement. I've had issues before with buzzing and it turned out to be faulty mains wiring where the socket wasn't earthed. So it's something to check out (for safety and legal reasons!).
Corsair have sent me an RMA code for it. I've decided to get a modular psu anyway. was thinking of http://www.scan.co.uk/products/850w...lus-silver-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-fan-atx-v291 any thoughts on this psu? i see it has bit tech premium but i cant find the article here. will this be more expensive on the electricity bill or will the difference be negligable?
Your computer will draw exactly the same amount of power as it did with the 650, it'll just put less strain on the PSU. And the Corsair HX series are awesome PSUs, they're rebranded Seasonics, which are basically the best there are.
