I don't know how naive of a question this is but I was thinking of a modular computer project. While mapping out the concept I began to wonder something, is there a way to use a 1000w psu (for sake of discussion) to power two servers? Are there splitters for molex cables? Are there pitfalls to this? Dangers/hazards? Etc? Is it even possible? Chime in!
In theory it is workable but I don't see why you would ever want to. Usually servers have redundant power supplies so if one fails the other picks up the slack and allows the system to continue. You are going the opposite way and really relying on that one PSU to be rock solid for 2 systems. If the power supply dies spectacularly then you run the risk of killing 2 systems.
^And even if it just dies, both of your servers will be offline untill you fabricate another frankenstein power supply for them.
Well my theory was more a network contained in one large tower. A web server, a server for games (like hosting arma), my main actual gaming rig, and a media rig for streaming content throug my home/net/etc. I haven't narrowed down how many individual rigs are needed/practical. The media/web or media/game server can probably be the same as I can see using both at once. And then slap it in one large tower. I want to call the whole thing Project LAIN. *shrug* I called it" modular because Ill be doing this one rig at a time. For being an escentric idea Im still looking for the most practical approach. Im trying to avoid the clutter of the attched pic while maintaining the idea/spirit.
