    Hey guys,

I have a Antec Trio 550 Watt (SLi) and I had it for around maybe 6 months (Or more) And the problem started last night when the PSU Fan doesnt spin when i turn the computer on, and it seems to me that it doesnt power up the Fan Controller, other then that the other system powers up, motherboard, GPU, and etc. So im obviously geussing its the PSU problem, but whats causing it? Blown capacitator, fried parts, or what?

    Thanks-

What so the PC starts up but the fan in the PSU doesn't? Have you checked the connection to the fan controller? and tried plugging the fan controller into another molex connector.

Yea, the PC starts, except the fan inside the PSU, and also a fan controller that controlls 3 fans in the case doesn't work. My PSU fan is not controlled by my fan controller if thats what your asking.

Have you tried spinning the fan in the PSU to see if it actually moves/spins, also try spinning the fan in the PSU with the system on to see if nudge helps it to start up. If that works then it sounds like the fans died and I woudn't run the PSU with a faulty fan so it may be RMA time.

Personally I wouldn't mess with it. You don't want to mess up your ability to RMA the thing. Just get a number and get it sent back.

My experience with Antec is pretty bad lately.
For many many years Antec was my choice. They were solid, last long, ideal for computer that run 24/7... But the last few years, they are using cheaper components even on the high end models, that makes the PSU very bad for computer running ~24/7 .

I had the Antec True Power 1.0 330W worked fine for 2years, then it randomly loses power and come back... which keeps the computer running, yet just enough for the HDD to turn off and turn back on. This caused me some serious data lost, and froze the computer at the same time. I put my old low-end Antec PSU, 300W instead, which was used for several years (maybe 5-6, I had it since 2 computers ago) and still runs fine, loud, but works.

On a different computer I got in Jan 2006, and Antec True Power 2.0 480W, and now lately there is something in the PSU that makes a high pitch noise when I do not connect (yes DO NOT connect) my Ethernet cable... You REALLY think it's the mobo, but nope, it's the PSU at 100%. The high pitch noise also occurs when you startup the computer until your fully loaded in your account. Very strange! I thought that maybe my computer did this special vibration were it made the noise, and you pluged the Ethernet cable it stopped the vibration. But if there is no current on the Ethernet cable, the high pitch noise stops... If I plug that same Ethernet cable, on my other (3Com) Ethernet port which I never used, the sound also stops... This problem started recently. I tried a different, lower Wattage A-Open PSU (430W), and there is no high pitch noise, and the computer runs fine even on LOAD.

Maybe I was unlucky, as I, myself still can't understand this... Maybe I should try the HE series?!?

RMA stand for: Return to Manufacture Authorization.

Ah, thanks. My first PSU was Thermaltake, and it worked fine until it died out. So i bought a antec since i thought they use good quality until now. So maybe if it does fail again in the future, which is most trusty PSU you think i can buy?

P&PC and Tagan are the best. There's a thread in Hardware and overclocking about PSUs

Antec aren't bad, mid-range. Just nothing more.

Tagan being the best is a fricking joke, and you're miles off there mate. Tagan are mid-range. Again, nothing more. They're popular, but popularity doesn't have the ability to lower voltage ripple and deviation at high current.

PCP&P, Seasonic, Corsair. All made by the same company, and three of the best PSU's out there. Silverstone make some pretty good ones right now too IIRC in the high end.

    Almost, spec.

PCP&C SILENCER's are made by Seasonic, as are Corsair and Seasonic.
PCP&C Turbo-cool are made by Win-tact. High grade quality server psu. Think Etasis, or Zippy, except a whole lot more expensive.

As for Tagan, I'd pass on it unless the only other option is powmax. I suggest a Corsair HX 520, Seasonic S12 (any of them), or the Silverstone ST50EF.

Ah, wasn't aware of that. Good info, ta dude. Does make sense given how much tougher the super-high end of PCP&P seem than seasonics and corsairs(not to say they're weak, far from it).

Really popular, yes. Really good? Never especially great. I think they came out at a time when Antec and Enermax were the things to have, they had modular cables and cost a little less, but performed on par, and they just became incredibly popular(and popular = the best in many peoples minds). Certainly there are better PSU's out there.
