can u buy atx motherboard connectors ? as in just the clip bit ?

As i want to shorten my ATX cable as its about 12" and i only need about 3".

    2. how do you discharge the capacitors inside a PSU, incase i cant get the plug and have to desolder them to shorten them ?

    Cheers

er the simplest way is to short the pins but that probably wouldnt do the capacitor/your hand holding the overheating wire/the wire ne good so connect a resistor the smallrer the value of the resistor the quicker the discharge but alsothe greater the current so more heat
    large resistor = long wait
cant remember the equ and i wont be around to find it for a couple of days if no ones replied by monday ill dig out the equ 4 ya

Not much help, but you want a Molex 39-01-2200, I thought Rapid had them but can only see up to 12-way (u want 20).

They do sell the crimp contacts seperate, so you could use your old housing.

Re capacitors - the only ones with >240v are (AFAIK) low value, so won't take long to discharge with a 1k - 10k resistor - hunt around with a multimeter, with one probe clipped to the case before touching anything.

However, the low-voltage ones will make a nice bang if you short them, with the main danger being to them, not you. I've heard you can discharge these by pulling the mains plug at the start of a boot, but never tried it.
