Did that once with a stuffed toy sheep. On a 30ft video screen in front of Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols & Robert Picardo. That's how the sci-fi convention tech crew I sometimes work for became called "Exploding Sheep Productions".
I got an idea that I might do... I got an old computer somewhere... take everything out, and turn it on... Drop the whole thing into a bucket of liquid nitrogen. Extreme overclocking (it is around a 300mhz processor...) I have always wondered what would happen if you melted a processor while it is running... Or solder all of the circuits together... Drill into the hard drive while it is still running... I got some powerfull fireworks around here somewhere... I could always try those... get it running, have a little electrical shock start the fuse... goodbye intel... Open a hard drive, fill it with mineral-oil, or fluorinert, water-seal it, turn it on... Ah... the wonders of destrution
Probably the same thing as a toaster in a microwave (from Jemery Clarksons self titled show) I miss his microwave experients (for those of you not familiar with Jeremy Clarkson he's a big kid who loves cars, all things fast and explosions. he regularly blows up **** cars on his own shows and occasionly on Top Gear too )
did u c him putting that cute little 4x4 thru hell a little while back - now that was some truly emotional televisual entertainment Sod it, lets get Clarkson's contact address and ask him what he'd do to a mangy old computer
is it me or are there alot of anti-intel peeps in this thread? not that i mind cus AMD own I've always been curious what would happen if you put a cpu in the wrong way wrong. snip of the corner pins, rotate 180 degrees, put it in and run. as for destructive events... you could do one of those lightning experiments. get a model rocket, tie 1000m (or some other extreamly long amount) of wire to it, fire it up and try to coax lightning to hit the computer. people always moan lightning storms knock out computers, what would happen if it actually hit? another one. would take alot of work tho... unsolder and reverse all the caps on a mobo, also wire em up in paralel and switch on the power. if current goes the wrong way thro a cap i beleive they blow up? thing is once one goes most of them will fail to go cus the power would be gone as the circuit is broken - thus y u waste time wiring them in paralel - to much work but could b fun. final one how about watercooling your pc... not with cpu block i mean seal up the entire thing, cept for a lil hole at the top, fil with salt water and turn on. there was a joke thread on the net somewhere about that and i wondered what would happen if someone actually did try it
Well, your right about AMD owning all As for inserting a CPU the wrong way, in my experience (on older systems mind you) all's that'll happen is the mobo trips out and goes into a "fail safe" mode protecting all the hardware hooked up, no power going to anything period (it even trips out the psu and causes it to fail). I've inserted a processer the wrong way a few times before so yeah, I allready knew that one heh. As for a lightning hit, it would just basicly fry everything inside the computer, melt part of the casing, and it would look very "black". Nothing more though (I seen it done on a computer once). Reversing some caps though ehh, that would require some soldering skills, most of witch I lack! Would be an idea for some time in the future. Btw, for all of you hoping for more distruction, I'm not sure when I'll be able to do more I'm in a bit of a bind right now, so time is at a premium. Will do my best to bring more distruction though!!! I've got some plans in the work, so don't go away!
Ok Let's um see. Firstly let's list the current members of the [BiT-Tech] Destruction Clan ok ? First up it's M_D_K the keyboard killer king Now we have Private. Malf the mobo Killer King , Congrats guys ! oh yeah I'm headphone killer btw ...
You have probably seen those tests to see how much rotational force a CD can take. Try something along those lines with an old hdd if you could wire it so that it would run directly throught the motor (good luck seeing as how most are multi phase AC motors) maybe get it going extreemly fast. If it doesnt break just take a capacitor bank and some heavy heavy wire, and fire the poor disk several 100 feet into the air. I have seen that one done before it is really cool if you know how to do it
I was actualy thinking of taking the cover off of a hdd, pluging it in, then when the disk is up to speed, start writing on it Kinda like an expensive "spin n' doodle" or whatever you call them things.
sounds simlar to this guy who put CDs attached to a high-speed dremel hehehe that was fun to watch, at about 20K RPM the CD shattered love your destruction btw, keep it up!
OOOoooooh I did that with an old mac harddrive. Except i used a exacto knife instead of a marker. The shinny coating sort of flakes of, its pretty neat. I wonder what would happen if you lit a compute on fire while it was running you know, see how ling it takes to totally die, with the help of lighter fluid.
my 2 favorite ways of destroyng a computer is thermite plasma and c4 i wonder what would happen if i mixed the 2 probley blow the slow burning thermite plasma allover me and kill me any body in the mood for bar-b-q!!! (or as seen on jay leno bar-b-queer) because letterman wasnt on yet
That was on MythBusters a few days ago. If you have DirecTV it's on the Discovery channel (I think). It's a cool show. They made a remote controlled cop car the other day to destruct, and also strapped a JATO-equivalent rocket to the top of a car to see what would happen. Crazy... -TX297
Me and a mate had an old p2 system. We overclocked it to ****, ripped the cpu fan off. It left behind the remains of the thermal pad which very quickly turned to liquid and bubbled (funny that!). We then started pulling bits off of the mobo with cable cutters. Not much else happend so we took a hammer to the p2. Hard little *******s!! Anyway, we got bored and the most exciting thing to happen was my mate forgetting that it would still be oven hot a few mins later and started picking up the remains!!
im considering upgrading my whole pc soon i may put unreal tounrie 2003 on run the game and remove my heat sink see what happens i belive the temp rises in less than a few seconds maybe use the cup cooling idea but with a polystyrine cup
buy a p4 box from a store have them get it up and running right there then bust out a hammer and start smashing
Outright destruction isn't going to be as interesting... Blowing up a computer is no different to playing with some fireworks.. What you really want to do is see how long it will stay running and what effect it will have, if you progressively "mod it" by removing components, just a few resistors around the south bridge and work up to capicitors and things (although they can be dangerous). I personally think most components are just their for show, I think its about time someone exposed these silicon giants for the frauds they are! A few specific ideas: solder copper strands to all of the pints of a socketed processer and plug them into the socket so the processor is connected at a distance of about 20cm (you may need to insulate), that'd be interesting to see if it worked and you maybe able to come up with some novel cooling solutions. If it did work you could start snipping the wires will it was on... How about laminating all your components and water cooling with a hose, would be impressive if you could make it work.. or maybe with an unconductive liquid.. can't think what... How about swapping bios' or chipset processors between motherboards, again would be very interesting if you could get it to work, fun to watch if didn't. These sort of things I can't think what effect they would have.. do it!
