In my rig I am using an eheim 1048 pump and it interferes with the right side of the picture on my monitor, makes the picture all wobbly (the case is to the right of the monitor - about 30-40cm away)
Turning the pump off fixes the problem so it's obvious it's the pump causing it. :duh:

I have tried wrapping the pump in several layers of foil but it dosen't make any difference :(

Anyone got any ideas/suggestions on how to stop the interference?

    Thanks :cooldude:

Really the only thing that will do it is to move the pump away or incase it in a metal casing.....Cant put the pump inside your case?

Make a little box to surround the pump out of tin or some semi-thich but bendable metal. That's how I got mine to stop making mine wobble so much. It still did a little, but moving it about a foot away fixed it.

    It already is.
Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow. Would lead do the trick?

Supercool - please post your solution if/when you find it. I've just finished watercooling my rig and I have exactly the same problem. :waah:

I really want to find a way to fix the problem such as placing the pump in a metal box, 'cos I can't really move the pump any further away from the monitor. :wallbash:

I used some lead we had left over from having the roof done, bent it loosly round the pump cut the hole for the outlet then cut 2 squares, one for either end and used a bit of solder to hold it all together. Seems to have done the trick.

Since lead is a bit expensive and heavy you should try putting it in a metal box (dense metal) and it should do the job just as well

Can't do pics because I sent my digicam back to sony this morning for repair :(

Cheers supercool - I've been able to reduce the interference a bit by increasing the display frequency and turning the pump so it's axis is at 90 degrees to the axis of the monitor's crt.

However, I do think that a metal box is the only permnent solution. :dremel:

    Still in development afaik.

The first batch they had made had the outlet aperture too small or something.
I'm waiting on confirmation of it now.
They list a 1048 one too but that won't be out until after they perfect this one.

I love the name of it though - 1046 FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) :D

    pug - I neeed one ..... :jawdrop:

As soon as you hear that the 1048 version is available, let me know and you'll have yourself another order.

BTW the gear you sold me is all installed and working great, but it's so quiet I can hear all the other little noises now ...

    Hi Olly *waves* :D

    Ok, I'll make a note.
I know what you mean about other noises though, I went through the stages of "I can hear my ***** now", ticking off GPU fan, NB fan, PSU fan, HDD, etc along the way.

I used to be able to hear my rigs upstairs, now I don't hear them from a foot away. :brrr:

    /me seconds Haddy.... PICS!!! :thumb:

Another quick thought for you.. are you running it on the same plug block as your monitor/rig.. of so try plugging it into somewhere else in the room. Could be easier then making a shield for it.

That's a good point. I remember long, long ago getting trouble if I plugged in my BBC Micro to the same block at the freezer.

Boondoggle - thanks for the suggestion, the relay that supplies power to the pump and the small PSU I've got in the case with the watercooling gear (you'll have to wait for the pictues), does indeed plug into the same block as the PC and monitor.

I'm too 'cream crackered' to shift all the gear about right now, but I will give it a go a.s.a.p.

    Cheers,

    Olly

Anyway here's a link to the piccies you wanted.

I can't compete with most of the rigs I see on this forum, but personally I very pleased with the result (the good bits are all the kit that pug sells, and the bad bits are all my own work!)

    Hey, cool. :thumb:

Was that another PC case on the left then?
It took me a little while to figure out what was happening until I noticed the lack of 5.25 drives in the w/c enclosure. :D

    Olly,
    Good job :thumb:
Is the finish on the w/c enclosure a bit `uneven` or is it the way the pics were taken?

Pug - Yes that was another PC case before I ripped the front off, sanded it down with an orbital sander and cut huge holes in it ... :dremel:

Supercool - the finish on the w/c enclosure may indeed be a bit 'uneven', but my metalworking skills are so mediocre/non-existant that I wouldn't know a good finish if it bit me on the ankle.... (must try harder the next time) :D

Seriously though, I found it difficult to get a good finish on the sheet aluminium I used for the faceplate.

One other thing - make sure the refresh rate on your monitor is turned up. The lower (toward 60Hz) the more noticeable interference you'll see. When I bump mine up to 100Hz, I can get my monitor as close as 6 inches to the pump without any problems. Any closer and you'll start to notice a little wobbling, but nothing nearly as severe.
