I don't think 'piss' is considered rude enough to be crushed by the swear filter. ***** and **** on the other hand, very much are. Also, shouldn't it be tw@?

I wasn't sure if 'piss' would trigger the swear filter, but I tend to type it that way on other forums.
No! **SLAP** That's text speak! Whereas tw@t is just innocent substitution. :p :hehe:

    Dyslexia is very variable.

I have mild dylexia, meaning that I can talk better than I can write, but its more caused because what I dictate is at a very high level and my written work is more average.

My brother is actually smarter than me and he cannot complete his exams without a scribe because he can't read them properly or write them, so your friends are an example of just one type of dyslexia.

Think of dyslexia sort of like a bar chart. If the bar chart is level (you can read, write, spell, process etc to the same level) you are normal. If you have peaks and troughs (genius writer but can't express verbally etc) then you are dyslexic.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For people like my brother gaming and PC's have lead to them becoming increasingly literate, and slamming them for not using proper grammar will not do them any favors, and TBH its just bloody rude, from what I've seen of the people on this forum they have difficulties of some sort but we don't slam them for that.

Before you start ranting try walking for a mile in someone else's boots, or at least a little bit of empathy.

If it really offends you don't read their posts, or run it through word to sort out the punctuation.

Just have to say that seeing both quotes on the same page made me chuckle a little bit.

I don't have a problem with improper grammar, rather people who don't think it matters (which it does). If you want people to read your posts then make an effort to make them pleasurable to read; don't assume that you're important enough that people should wade through heaps of poorly punctuated garble so they can understand your point. I don't mind the odd mistake or even a few but people who make no effort to make their communications comprehendable shouldn't be surprised when people to take the time to read them.

Equally don't think that you're so important that we have to get over a personal difficulty just to suit you. Do you expect people in wheelchairs to drag themselves up stairs because they should be ashamed they can't walk? Remember that writing is a talent that should be nurtured, and needs to be encouraged not trampled over.

But yes I do agree people should care, just don't assume they don't.

This was the only thing I learned during my time at college doing a ICT course.

Where is Unicorn? His pedant senses must be tingling.

Unless maintaining standards of English on the forum is actually your job, for which you receive a salary, how about a modicum of tolerance, gentlemen?

Simply because someone cannot spell or punctuate properly does not automatically take away the merit of their post - and how exactly do you expect someone who cannot spell to pick the correct spelling in spell checker (if a word comes up at all!), without looking up the definition of each word that is? Likewise, someone could post in the Queen's English and the content of said post might be utter b******s :D

Leaving aside text speak which is pure laziness, possessing grammatically correct English does not make you a better man, tolerance of someone else's limitations in that regard does :p

Note: one space or two after a full stop, both are acceptable provided that consistency is maintained :)

I'm not too bothered by people who don't use capitalisation, general grammar and spelling mistakes don't tend to be an issue either but people who blatantly write with the mentality of a brain-dead chimp (possibly because they've spent too much of their life flicking through the lolcats/loldogs websites) really irk me.

Text speak can be annoying but I don't mind the occasional abbreviated phrases here and there. For example; people who write abbreviations like "ttyl" are fine but changing 'you' to 'u' has no real benefit.

Probably my most hated thing is when people capitalise a word in the middle of a sentence for no apparent reason. Even worse is when people alternate upper and lower case to stand out... it just makes your text painful to read so it gets ignored.

I don't care about it at all. The only thing that irritates me is when someone writes a wall of text without using paragraphs. Makes my eyes bleed trying to read it.

I'm a reasonable person, if someone has a reasonable difficulty with something I won't be offended if they forgo it but at the same time your problems are your own problems (and we all have them) and you have to deal with them yourself. If there's something you struggle with then people will be calm and accepting but you need to make them aware of what you need help with.

I should think he's fairly occupied trying to writhe out of one of those shirts with the optional wrap-around sleeves.

Tell me why someone should bare their soul to you and all the forum, simply to satisfy your need to feel justified, or otherwise, in your summary judgement of their character or abilities based on an ability to punctuate or spell correctly?

What is it with you lot? Who gives a sh*t if it's perfect spelling and flawless grammar, So long as it's legible and you can understand whats being put over its fine. Being able to spell perfectly and correctly punctuate doesn't make you more intelligent or superior.
But banging on about it and criticizing everyone else just makes you look like a dick and unliked.

Mind there has been some post that defy interpretation :worried:

Oh and I know the above isn't grammatically correct so stick that in your **** and smoke it lol

If nobody told anyone else about anything they had wrong with themselves we'd all be in a terrible mess. I'm all for people just being polite, tbh.

A terrible mess, because we haven't justified ourselves and our idiosyncrasies? Why should one be required to do so?

"Just being polite" would require one to accept and not comment publicly on someone's spelling or grammar, regardless of what one thought of it privately :)

Trust me, you (as in anyone) can be awfully polite but terribly rude at the same time.

Maybe people should practice what they preach.
