Now that's just blind stereotyping. Personally, I prefer to sit wearing nothing but my bath robe and dribble.

It's based on some archaic idea of having to somehow enforce your words with more than their own truth or accuracy.

Basically the "Fight me, bro! If I win you're wrong!" mentality that the Internet has helped us move away from for the most part.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

If I am fapping it is generally to naked ladies, not to grammar and punctuation :)

Well, it seems that during my short absence someone else raised the issue that I've been going on about for... ever. Well done and thank you for bringing it up Neil - I hope your concerns didn't fall on deaf ears. Not all of them, anyway.

I think I'm beating a dead horse by saying this, but here we go again: someone correcting bad spelling or grammar on the forum, or complaining about the poor level of the two has nothing to do with how smart they think they are. They do not think they are above the person that they are correcting or complaining about. They are trying (desperately, might I add) to keep the readability of bit-tech at the high standard that it's always been at. If I have ever come across as arrogant in my attempts to correct spelling or grammar here, I'm sorry - it has never been my intention for it to seem that way. I just don't want bit-tech to end up being as hard to read as some other forums I'm a member of, where I have to read every sentence twice to understand what's being said :(

A sign of the times unfortunately. Although sometimes useful, auto correct, predictive text et al does not promote learning.
I am far from a ludite, but maybe teaching english in schools should be kept old school.

I don't think there's anything wrong with current English study in schools - my 11 year old's written English is excellent. He's a bright kid, but they have to be exposed to it before they can learn it.

I think the subject took a dive in the mid-late nineties/early noughties, in the UK, as far as quality of teaching goes and coincided with the rise in popularity of internet access and mobile phone usage; but the shortfall has probably been identified and recovered considerably since then.

You have once or twice in my opinion, but that is inevitable.

But reading that post I respect your attitude towards spelling and encouraging good spelling/grammar is a good thing, especially when you're just trying to help.
