Anyone who is familiar with the PS3 or (newer) Xbox 360 will appreciate the 10 second or so boot up time, instant acess to only media things (songs, videos, pictures etc...) but has anyone ever produced something like that for the PC, I mean - the hard drives in PCs are faster, so are the processors and so are the graphics (usually) and yes they are more complex but is there any pure media operating system - MeediOS comes close for me but the only thing is that it needs to be run off a platform OS, if it was an OS in it's own right, then it would be what I am talking about, Mythbuntu also, and MeediOS and Mythbuntu combined is very very close... so does anyone have any improvements
just before abit went bust they were working on something which gave a 3 second start up time or somethin like that.
You could always install NOTHING on that computer and disable every service known to man. Of course there's Asus' utility thing, not very useful though.
+1 at Elton, disable all except networking and graphics services. Should boot a wee bit quicker. You could also try getting a cheaper motherboard, quite often the cheap ones have 'QuickBoot' options which I think skip proper POSTing and don't have any RAID hardware to look at.
But...why ever would you want a pure gaming OS that wasn't windows? I guess TinyXP with minimal drivers and an SSD would be the quickest booting gaming OS.
