    Laing

The case i am building myself it will be roughly the same size as the lian li pc-v300

i will get some designs put up for all to see soon i am not worried that it will get hot because for what i have planned for it it wont!!

it will be tall enough for even the biggest of coolers.

i am also hoping to make it so that the front/top opens on a hinge to reveal all the hardware inside to allow for easy access.

the hardware that will be going in to this will be
    an asus p5l-vm-1394 mobo
    an e6600
    evga 8800gts 320mb superclocked
    hiper type r modular psu
    a coolermaster gemini
    2gb corsair xms2
    250gb seagate, 80gb samsung.

the main structure is being made out of aluminium angle section.

anyway enough babble on to the design (i cant get my head around sketch up so youll have to try and imagine it!)

the paint is purple chromaflair (if i can find any to buy) and before anybody asks im not gay im not a woman i just like purple.

i will be back in a few minutes with the first pictures.

    c+c welcome

    cheers josh/gingermonkey

    update #1

firstly the materials i bought today
    [IMG]

    mesh [IMG]

    jigsaw blades [IMG]

    cheapo riveter [IMG]

4 meters of aluminium angle section [IMG]

and i first measured (twice of course) and started cutting [IMG]

once that was all done i needed to do some filing to get all the pieces the same size and to get rid of any nasty edges (to my surprise there werent many! [IMG]

then i started to glue the sections together with araldyte [IMG]

then after quite a bit of glueing it was assembled [IMG]

but i then realised it wasn't actually that stable soooo i got out my nice shiny new riveter. [IMG]

i didnt manage to get all the corners riveted thats tommorrows job!

thats all i can do though untill the sheet metal arrives which should be in a few days!! woo

    thats it for today.

    c+c welcome

    cheers josh/gingermonkey.

It still won't be stable with the rivets. It needs cross bracing.

Where did you get the metal?

Cross bracing adds torsional strength. Really bad MSpaint...

(I meant the L section metal.)

I think there wont be much difference in what the primer looks like after it goes on aluminum because the primers Ive seen dont really say which metal to use on it soo any primer will probably work.

yeah, think it might not be stable with the rivets only. Maybe you could screw the plates (if you plan so) into the frame, and the plate will help stable the case. Hmm, think that 3mm would be perfect. I've build a case in alu once, but it's only in Danish. You could check the Der_Meister out for some construction inspiration.

Personaly I would put an extra where the handle will. Also holding the hdds/dvd would be logical. Two X-crosses on buttom & top or both sides should make it stable :) gl
