One of the fans in my q-tec 550w psu is making an awfull noice and needs replacing. What i want to know is what fan could i replace it with that is nice and quiet? I have replaced it with an old psu fan temperarly but thats making an awfull racket. What would be best to use? Also needs to be relatively cheap I have 2 evercools in my system would one of them be enough ?
Are they dirty? If so try cleaning them, dust can put them off ballence and make em noisy. Also you could try lubricating them. Peel back teh sticker and you will see the fans "axle" (cant think what to call it ) held in by a plastic retainer. Spray some silicone lubricant or similar in the hole and see if that helps. DO NOT use something like WD40. Its a degreaser and will remove any greese thats in the bearing allready and will most likely make it much worse. If those fail then youre gonna have to spend. You could try teh real cheap ebuyer fans, i think they were about 1 or 2 quid each, but i am a firm believer in papst fans. They will cost you but they are the best there is.
Ive tried cleaning/dismantaling and everything it just seams like theirs something catching inside it when it spins. Ill try it again and see
Just rebuilt it again and put some thickish greese in it and tested it at 12v and i think its ok ill put it back in and see in a few days
Nice one, I hope it lasts for you. My qtec seems quite quiet really, not a great deal noisier than the 3 80mm papsts and a generic 120mm running at 5v.
excelent.. I also have the same problem but I will probably just replace the fan if cleaning doesnt work.. how long did you let yours discharge for first?
About the time it took me to remove the top of my case and get the PSU out so roughly 5 mins :s I just made sure i was carefull and didnt touch anything but the fan! Just be carefull
