Hi all, i have a q-tec 550 dual fan gold psu. it has a connector that is square with 2 +12 volt liines and 2 ground, there is another one that looks like half an AT power connector. Someone said that the AT looking one is for server boards and the square one is for pentium 4 boards. If thats the case, i dont need them so would it be safe to unsolder the wires from inside the psu so i can get rid of them because they are just in the way?

    Thanks

Yes, you can remove them. The square connector is for connecting to some motherboards (my abit nf7 uses one, and that is not p4). The other one (i presume it is orange and black) I just stuffed inside the PSU...

You could try cutting them down quite short, and putting "chock blocks" on the end... I don't know the real name, but you know the things. Plastic, with metal screws that hold two bits of cable in a brass lock in the middle. That way, it will be easy to re-attach the wires if you need them later.

Another option would be to simply put some hooks on the side of the PSU and neatly tie the cable round them.

Thanks for the reply AmiMoJo but ive lopped them of already, it was a good idea but dont think the chocolate blocks would have fitted inside the psu though. Ive just individually taped all the ends up and ill probalbly unsolder the last bits at the weekend.

    Thanks again
