Hi all, I currently hacve a Q660 running at 3 Ghz. Ive been thinking about upgrading for quite a while but since my days of system building things have moved at quite a pace. Would I see any real world benefit from upgrading my old lga775 set up to a core i3/5/7 set up?

Id like to use my old power supply and ati 4870 so I will just need mboard, cpu and ram.

    Cheers.....

You should see a good increase going to a sandy bridge 1155 system yes. A decent SSD thrown in will give you a whole new experience.

Hello and welcome to Bit-tech.net paulieboy.

For the best advice we really need full system spec (i.e. monitor and it's resolution, operating system 32bit or 64bit) and further information (i.e. as mentioned above the purpose of your machine). Simply because we may see something in the build that we would recommend improving so you can get the best performance out of your machine on a set budget.

I am guessing you are comfortable with assembling your own machine?

Thanks, once again welcome to bit tech.

I have a decent 750W power supply, antec case, 21 inch monitor, windows 7. I very very occasionaly game on my pc now, mostly demos to see if i like a game for my xbox!!?%* I do some video encoding to my ipad which is where the quad core comes in. I download a lot of vids off usenxt which need uncompressing/repairing but apart from that im not really a power user. Im all for an SSD as i would love a faster booting machine. Not thats its slow now, but i believe with just an operationg system on it runs quite smooth.

Cheers for the replies so far guys...............

p.s. ive heard good things about the i5 2500k.
