Hi Guys I haven't had much experience with Intel CPUS as i use to buy AMD chips, but last eariler this month i got a Q9450 on a water cooling set up. Its currently overclocked @ 3.2Ghz and after stress testing for several hours all 4 cores seem to reach just about 60c (using Realtemp to show this). So just asking is this ok? various websites show temps higher but also lower and i dont know if these kinda temps on a new 45nm Quad core is expectable? Thanks Hg
Q9450 is one of the most overclockble quads out there(and think your self luky that you got one lol), so 3.2 is a very low clock for it i could clock to 4Ghz i think maybe a bit more, also 60c seems a bit high (but iv only been overclocking core 2 duo's not quads) but you should know that ALL software does not give an acrate reading of core temps... my E6600 is at 3Ghz and it reads its at 22c.. and as you could tell thats total bull sh!t... best way to get a good estamert is to look what temp you are on with your BIOS (should be in the PC helth tab) and say it was 30c in BIOS and it says 22c in wondows you know to add around 10c on top of the windows temp. (some goes for when it shows high temps in windows like 44, just take away 10c) Also the best stress testing software IMO is OCCT.. seems to rape my CPU more than anyover stress tester.
What's your WC setup like? How were your temps with your AMD chips? Try remounting the WC block, that might improve your temps.
what voltage are you using? im running mine at 3.5 atm with 1.25 vCore the 'cpu' temp is like 25 idle 30 load but thats nonsense so i ignore that one the core temps are usually around 45-46 idle and a little over 50 load
If you take a Q6600 at a similar clock speed the Q9450 should be at a lower temp. That should be a decent yardstick to go by.
Ok voltage atm is 1.225vcore, the core temps idle at 42c and 58ish under full stress using OCCT. the water cooling set up is a gigabyte 3D Galaxy II taken from a Packard Bell machine, it has a single 120mm Rad and is only going to the cpu. I think this is the reason why to be fair, if i was to upgrade the rad to 240mm i think the temps would drop. The bios tells me my 'cpu' idle is around 37ish I am looking at trying to drop the vcore further also looking at this site http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1917757 my cores seem within tolerance
Yup - based on your loop the temps sound about right tbh mate. Another rad would be a great investment, I run 2 120.1 rads on the 120mm fan ports in this case, works a treat!
yeah was looking into a new rad at some point in the near future, just playing round wid the vcore and it doesnt change alot now and tbh looks like once i hit 60c the temp goes no higher and it only just hits 60c most of the time its 57ish on 1st 2 cores and 55ish on 2nd 2 cores. I think its fine now once i get a bigger rad i would overclock the cpu further, as this is many firsts for me, hehe first Intel chip, first overclock and water cooling set up
Thanks Krikkit, just seen this: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/3D_Galaxy_II/6.html and it looks like the cooler i have is good at taken heat away under load but its not the best @ idle so i think im happy
