The reason for quoting people's posts is that quite often the original post and the reply are separated by several (possibly non-related) posts.

Without the ability to quote, it can get quite difficult to work out who's saying what to whom.

Although, I have to agree that quoting a post just to add "QFT" to the bottom is bloody annoying.

 

Yeah true, but this is rarely needed - most of the time the specific person can be identified by using their unique username
Notice how it is obvious who i am speaking to without having to quote or even use a username

Can we have a one quote per user per day limit? This would have a good effect on making people think twice before they quote i think, or maybe something like you have to post an appropriate lolcat in any thread before you can quote someone again. i dunno

 

That is far to heavy of a restriction, true there are people out there who seem to think it necessary to quote every single post just so that people know who they are talking to but we shouldn't make rule just to deal with them. Just wait for the bullets that travel along net connections to arrive, they should be here any day now...

yeah exactly, and if they took away the ability to quote people I would just use the good old "" marks.
Quoting someone makes the forum less confusing when multitple people are talking.

Do the both of you not comprehend the function of a name? And by "name" i don't mean insulting people by calling them names, i mean to use thier actual name or username in the case of a forum such as this. This post is one example where there is absolutely no need for me to quote any of the complete rubbish that you two polluted the interent and this forum with. There are cases where quoting someone is approriate but more often than not, simply quoting a username is more than adequate. Considering the level of intelligence you two have demonstrated, i assume that neither of you would be able to interpret what is being said here, but do not worry - one day, when you have pubic hair, you will understand
