    Hi,

I'm looking at getting the QNAP TS-412 along with some Seagate 2TB ST2000DM001 Barracuda hard drives. The QNAP is rated for SATA II but these drives are SATA III, they are in the compatibility list so things should be fine but I am still a little concerned with regards the SATA II/III compatibility, should I be? Having looked at SATA II drives they are for some reason a lot more expensive so it makes sense to grab the SATA III drives.

    Thanks,

    iKiX

No need to worry, SATA III is completely compatible with SATA II, only the speeds will cap at 3 Gb/s (if it even reaches that speed)

The network connection will be the limiting factor in a NAS!

Yes, but he was worried about the SATA ports, not his networking :)
