    argh!

Ok so, I swapped the two I mixed up. Still wasnt working then, because it's an SPDT relay I checked which two pins are connected when the circuit is at idle. I had the dvd drive hooked up to the wrong ones. So I switched them and using meter to test continuity on the + and - of the drive button when I touch the electrode of qt113 it beeps meaning the + and - are being connected.

It seems the drive will open if I connect the volt meter to the + and - the drive then unconnect them. Not sure why.

    Makes no sense at all!

    Heres how I have it

The relay is working perfectly as it should.

    EDIT:

Just did some testing. Took aanother relay and soldered wires to the pins that are normally close and touched those to the + and - of the drive. The drive opened!

So I know for sure this relay is working perfect and the lines are connecting 100%

So now then WTF is messing it up when I have everythign else attached?

You've wired something wrong for sure. If the positive side of the dvd switch has 3.3v, then the first pnp diagram i drew should have worked, and a relay should work aswell. [IMG]

Just make sure every wire is not only connecting the correct points in the circuit, but make sure that there is actually a connection, as in ~0 ohms.

Unless, perhaps it is as simple as a broken wire?!?

no broken wires, everything is done up 100% right. ive used a spare relay and just connected the two normally close pins to the drive wires and it works. i dont know anymore.

    very frustrating.

    whatever.....

Hey guys, I'm working on a computer project similar to this ONE, and wanted to know: Since I'm no good at electronics, could I use THIS to do the same thing as the item that originally started this thread? This of course is as long as my power supply isn't over 300W

    Thanks,
    Spanky

    @Talladega:

    1) So you short the two pins of the dvd eject button and it ejects, correct?

    2) You correctly connected the relay to the touch switch & dvd buttons, when triggering the touch switch, the relay was activated, which you have confirmed with a multimeter, but the dvd tray did not open?

If you answer yed to both of these questions, then one or more of the following is occuring:

    a) you messed up the wiring
    b) you have a broken wire
    c) you have a faulty connection
    d) you think the relay works but it doesn't
    e) you aren't connecting to the correct pins of the dvd drive?
    f) you think the dvd is working reliably but it intermittantly opens when using the eject button!
    g) your pc is possesed, burn it at the stake, now!

i know it might be cheaky but could anyome make me up two of these circuits. I need one for a power button and the other for DVD drive eject. A small piece of metal will act as the switch button. I know it might be alot to ask but would really appreciate it and such a thing is vital to my project. Of course i would pay for materials and your time to make them if anyone could do it for me. Im in england BTW.

I do believe you can order development kits from Atmel that use these chips (although I believe the Q110 has been discontined). Atmel bought out Quantem Research on the touch sensor stuff, if I remember correctly. The kits come as a already made kit, so you just hook up your external devices. Prices were fairly resonable, I believe too....maybe $15-$20 or so.

Just make sure you check the datasheets for the output of the kit. Some may pull the output to ground or up to VDD, or be momentary or latching. I remember the older 110 kits had selectable jumpers for the momentary or latching, and different ic's provided either the pull up or pull down output.

Hi im new here and i want to congrats you all for the excelent forum, i have been reading it for a while now.

i was doing some searching about qprox IC when i found this thread. after read the whole thread i learned alot bout how to do my DIY touch sensitive button. I liked some of the ideas i saw, particullary the idea of mvagusta of double clicking button.

The problem is that the images of the circuit that he posted are down, so im asking if someone can post the circuit again or another circuit that do the same thing.

Thanks, and sorry for my english:thumb:

I see farnells sell plenty of evaluation boards by quantum research but can anybody tell me a place where I can but two of these boards to use as a pc power switch that will be activated by a metal plate.

I don't mind if somebody builds me them and il pay for the service.
