Hello all, I did a slightly-overdue update on my plex server and the nice man in the terminal told me that my gpu (Quadro P600) is no longer going to receive updates and is no longer officially supported. I only have this gpu for doing plex transcodes, a task for which it is exceptional and relatively power efficient. Some questions if you don't mind please: 1. Is this a problem? I have this notion that an unsupported piece of hardware leaves me open to attacks and malware etc, but is this really the case? 2. Where can I find the list of cards and how long they will be supported for? It occurs to me that there's no point in buying something like a GT1030, which is already pretty old, if it's going to be unsupported in a short while anyway. 3. If I do have to replace it, does anyone have any suggestions? I hear the newer quicksync cpus are actually quite capable by themselves so I may go that route and not have a gpu at all, or I might just stick a new card into the existing system in order to not have to do a full rebuild. Decisions! Rest of spec: Xeon 1230L v3 16GB Ram Debian 11 Kernel 5.10.0.18 A little over 14tb
Not really, just won't get new features and/or any software/driver bugs that pop up won't get fixed [EDIT] not sure how much of a problem this actually is, but another potential pitfall might be newer versions of the distro don't have the driver available in the repos. But that's a maybe. There isn't one, they're supported for as long as nvidia can be arsed to to support them. Only thing to beear in mind is nvidia tend to gut NVENC out of the xx30 Geforce cards [not sure what the deal is on the amd equivalents], so your best option might be another use low-end quadro. But as long as it still transcodes the codecs you elect to use, and don;t need anything bleedy edge like AV1, stick with the p600.
Sorry for the late reply but thank you for your help, guess I'll keep it going until I see a newer card at a bargainous price.
