I was running a windows Q3 server but then i changed it to an Open Tibia Server and then to ISA and then i unplugged it and lef it alone. So i dont have a quake 3 server, which is a shame because i happyn to really like Q3.
So i thought i would make myself another. I was just wondering what anyone thinks is the best distro that will support Q3 out of the box without installing any extra packages etc etc. Also what spec machine do people think will be best to run Q3 with the standard maps for <6 people. I was using a P3 500mhz machine however that was also running a graphic windows interface and connected to my home domain so was full of antivirus and services. But it ran lovely. So under linux with nothing extra running what will i need for my server? I have 133Mhz 266Mhz or the higher spec with 500Mhz.
Also more on the actual "how" aspect of the whole thing, does anyone have any info on making a Q3 dedicated server in *nix for starting on boot. And not really nesicary but it would be a bit wicked. Apache for a stats program of some sort.
    As always, many thanks. Ben

Never tried running a *nix game server. I would imagine you could get away with the 266 if you're not using a heavy window manager like KDE. As far as auto starting goes, have a look at /etc/init.d there are a bunch of scripts in there that run on startup. You could also try using ksysv to play with those scripts (starting them, stopping them, and getting them to auto start).
