http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/05/13/quake4_launch_details/ Many say Quake 2 was the best (I agree, I even have it on my Ipaq), but then Quake 3 was a very successful game too. Which Quake was the best? Will quake 4 be able to overcome the curse of Doom 3 engine and support gamers with weapons that would renew the great battle of multiplayer FPS's?
Never really played the others, but Q4 looks VERY promising. Doom 3 engine + lighting - crap storyline = good game. I just hope it's not excessively taxing on my system
Some of you people amaze me - you expect quake to have a storyline? Ill admit i rolled into quake at #3 so never played Quake 1 or 2 or the original UT (do i have authority to comment then?) but pre-131 patch Q3A was good multiplayer.
Quake is the best one for me, most probably because I played it the most. I did not like Quake 2 at all and I have still not even finished the single player missions, and I hated some aspects of multiplayer with it. Quake 3 was pretty good, almost as good as Quake, I did enjoy Q3 quite a bit. I am looking forward to Quake 4 though
I played quake 3 for about 3 years, weren't very good at it but enjoyed it. I was such a noob I played quake 1 & 2 with keys only.
quite looking forward to quake 4 getting sick of all the multiplayer only games around, theyre all the same to me hopefully its a game first rather than a technology showcase first, game second a la doom 3 im hoping that they realise that it really needs to be more than: enter room, kill things, repeat
I saw a few pics and the one on bit-tech looked pretty doom-esque. Donno I'll see if it's good when it releases and a mate buys it.
I didn't like Quake 1, I was a Duke Nukem kid. Loved Quake 2 though, and Quake 3 is still, imho, the best fps multiplayer game on a PC. I can't wait for Quake 4.
My only problem is that the Doom3 engine was more of a visual style, it looks great, but how good of a physics engine it will be is still to be determined, as Doom3 didn't really utilize it to its full.
it was all about the gnerations for the first generation of quake, it was outdone by duke 3d tbh... quake 2 was the best damn game ever quake 3 was DIFFERENT. nothing like quake 2, they are not comparible at all. they are just different games. and whoever said cant expect quake to have a storyline... the reason the older people hated q3a was because it ****ed up the games which had a storyline to them try playing quake2 and it has a really interesting (if a bit minimalistic) progression to it which i found very orthodox (sp?) and in my opinion quake2 had the best multiplayer weapons weighting any game has had ever, and thats a pretty big thing to have
I allways felt like the weapons in Q2 were a bit too powerfull, but I still had the best fun at lans playing Q2, more than any other game. I was much better at Q3, but I didnt enjoy it as much (prefered unrealtourney) I liked Doom3 as a single player game, good to play with the lights off on a dark night.
Spot on I was far too distracted for a few years to care about any other game due to Duke3d, by the time I was bored of that Quake2 was just coming out, utterly fantastic game - still is.
For me the cycle was Doom, Quake 2, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament, then Doom 3. I have played Quake 3 a little, but never liked it as much as Quake 2. I like single player mode a lot. =) L J
