What was I saying about comparing the death toll of a quake in california and one in a poor middle eastern country? This one in Iran is only 0.1 bigger on the richter scale but by the looks of it it's over a thousand times more devastating.
Of coures another factor is where the quake hit. I know the quake in california was in a rural area but I'm not sure what the population of the city in Iran was...

Bam (ironic name, ain't it?) was a popular tourist attraction, a lot of ancient buildings apparently. I have a few minutes before work, I'll go look it up.

Edit: What I'm finding is that NO ONE takes pictures of the current Bam (the tourist town, not the attraction). While there are pictures of ancient Arg-e-Bam, a city of mud, it is uninhabited. There is however, like I said, a tourist town nearby with a multiplicity of hotels, and many other businesses I would presume. Beginning to make me wonder how many tourists were involved in the quake...

I bet it was terrorism that caused the quake

Its horrible- truly horrible. It seems to have brought out the best in the press too- the best that one rag could come up with was "british man dies in earthquake"...

Apparently a lot of deaths were because of the fact that their buildings were made out of brick. They would fall and crush the inhabitants. Very sad.

lol, me too. I was wondering how long it would be before the press was claiming that the game caused "Civil war amongst the people of Iran." Stupid media :p

Very sad that so many people died, very sad. They had a short spot on the news about it, one elderly lady (80+) survived for several days by breathing through a pipe iirc. Scarry stuff. :eeek:
