I don't see why she should be protected like she's the last woman in the world.

The Queen is a tourist attraction, really. I'm not even sure why we have a monarchy - It doesn't seem to do anything except get the minute details of their lives publicised for no good reason.

Probably had far more than one guard, though, secreted away as 'civies' in places that wouldn't even begin to catch attention. Covert security, for low-down VIP trips tends to be better than overt operations.

I too think a monarchy is a little silly, but if it stops Gordon-bloody-Brown from having 100% power, I'm all for it.

The Queen has final say on all Parliamentary Acts, though this power hasn't been used in 400 years. The 400th anniversary was almost in chaos after Parliament presented the Queen with the fox-hunting legislation, but true t nature (ie for the good of the people), she passed it.

    Not just touristy. ;)

Only just seen this, but wanted to give my tuppence worth:

I don't think people appreciate how much she actually does for the UK. Tourists love the Royals and spend a heck of a lot of money to come and stalk them and get piccies of the palace etc. So if it weren't for Her Maj et. al., we would be paying a wee bit more tax etc.

That aside, it's nice to be different. Although i'm usually embarrassed to be english abroad (we don't have a very good rep you know), i'm still proud and glad to be British most of the time.

So yeah, i believe it's wrong for Her Maj to use public transport. It reflects badly on us as a nation. Making anyone use our public transport is bad enough at the best of times!
