So I don’t know how many of you have read the latest issue of CPC where they examine the world fastest hardware. In any case, they come to the conclusion that the 6970 is the worlds fastest GPU, since all the other ones they test on Arma 2 and BFBC2 suffer from constant microstutter making the game unplayable. Yes the SLI GTX 580s have a huge maximum frame rate, but they rank their minimum framerate as zero due to the issue. Now I’m sure a lot of you have seen the amazing gameplay videos of BF3 that have emerged recently, and like me, have lost your heads and decided you want to run this game at max setttings at 60fps no matter what. Of course, I’ll be waiting for the beta performance testing results to come in before deciding, but I was thinking of adding a second GTX 570. My question is: For those with SLI rigs – do you experience this game breaking microstutter like CPC claim to? And as an aside, while I’m here asking questions about SLI: Is it likely that the game will ship SLI ready? Thanks in advance!
both sli and crossfire suffer from microstutter due to the very nature of it. Wether its game breaking or not will depend on your resolution and how well supported bf3 is in regards to sli and cf. Crysis 2 for example does not suffer with microstutter in sli ( got sli 580s) world of warcraft was unplayable on sli due to microstutter till a recent patch fixed alot of its issues. thats always been sli and cf biggest problem lack of support, the bigger the game the less of an issue it is, its not a huge issue today but your always gonna be updating drivers and if the game doesnt work with sli you will have to disable it and run it on the single card its why bit tech and its lik always recomend 1 fast card rather than 2 slow cards ( not saying 570 is slow btw). ive played the beta of bf3 and after creating sli profiles for the game and use of some wierd beta drivers i did get it running in sli with minimal issues some screen tearing here and there, and wierd textures that were not filled in, also seemed to crash about every 2 hrs or so with nvidia display driver resets. ( its beta after all not everything is complete)
CF 6870 here. No microstutter in BC2 at all. It scales brilliantly on my crossfire setup with both cards running ~98% utilised in game. Consistantly great FPS even when everything on the map is exploding around me.
