We can spend all of the money in the world on the best parts man-kind has to offer, but all of that means squat unless we can transfer that beautiful image into those magnificant little orbs in our heads!

So what kind of monitor do you boys use on your test rig?

I just got a LCD Samsung 915n monitor with an 8ms response time, 700:1 contrast ratio, and 350cd/m2 brightness and it's great for gaming, although my video card has trouble handling the 1280x1024 native res on some games like F.E.A.R. It's a great monitor for gaming, even though most people say stay away from LCDs for gaming due to ghosting (I have none) and the native res needing a high end graphics card (which im looking into).

So what do you guys use? I would like to have an idea of what you're looking at, because that does make a big difference when talking about image quality.

    Thanks

For the record, your avatar picture is really disturbing, lol.

Judging by the parts listed on this reviewers test rig, yeah, I'd say that's pretty old school :D http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=172

Damn, that monitor was almost 600 USD back in the day! :jawdrop:

If you enjoy your loss of desk space and headaches, sure. :p

Ghosting is as subjective as sound testing, some people are more affect than others.

I'm quite the opposite. I hate CRTs and could never use one again. I can barely read text on a CRT now - it just looks really blurry, in my opinion.

But for gaming it's a different matter.

i bet i still have more desk space than you even with 19" crt :p my desk is vast! :D
headaches..? its called 85hz and any half decent crt will do better res than an equivilent tft with a minimum of 85hz
my dad has one of the supposedly uber 20" dell widescreens, its nearly good enough but i'd still use my 3 year old 19" crt over it any day

once I bought this TFT I became a bit "allergic" to CRT monitors... just as Mary Jo sais: BLURRY... and I've been happy gaming with my 19" benq FP937s+

and my desk is huge, so I could easily fit in a crt one... but I can't look at crt:s for longer periods time once I got used to this tft

I get more headaches from gaming on my ViewSonic VX924 than I do on my G400. 1600x1200 @ 85Hz is very nice and flicker free. Anything below 1600x1200 is 100Hz.

Use a decent CRT and you'll notice the difference ;)

    I <3 my G400.

Viewsonic is the king of CRT monitors now; I <3 my A90f+. TFTs are nice, but while you save desk space, unless you invest a LOT of money in it, youre going to see drastic decreases in image quality.

I just cant take sitting there for long periods having electrons fired at my face. Not to mention the ultra high pitched coil whine every-single-CRT gives off drives me nuts.

don't forget the HUGE ammount of heat it generates... it's all out of the computers cooling air since the crt heats up the room temps and computers DO get their "cold" air from the room

tft's only have 2 things over crt's imo, size and heat/power usage
the heat from crt's really did used to suck in summer, but now i just turn on the aircon :p

yea and pre-aircon i used to turn off the secondary screen when not using it, still sucked but more heat from the case and main components than the screen :p

true... but a crt still creates a considerable ammount of heat... I can't even imagine how hot it would be in my room if I'd be using a crt... when it's around 25 degrees C right now and 1.1 degrees C outdoors... and I'm running Asus A8N-sli deluxe, amd 64 3500+ (winchester), x850 xtpe and using a 19" tft...
