I don't notice any ghosting on my 19" Sony LCD, (but maybe I'm blind), but really, it's all about a big projector :)
    GTA:SA on a 3m diagonal screen? yummy
It does ghost like anything, but who cares? It's worth it to see the neighbors walking past trying to get a glimse through the windows :)

Yea we have bats round here, and I can hear them if i stand in the garden at night. My brother has even more sensitive ears than myself because he hasnt had the few years of loud music abuse I have.

Tim - imo, rear projections generally are extremely poor quality. Ive yet to see one ive been impressed with.

Also, i think the question is WHICH Bit-tech rig? Im sure we have about 10 between us all :p

hmmm... I can also hear the bats... and so can many others who don't hear that well, so you must be just about deaf if you don't

Bindi - I'd assume he means the one that goes to primarily test video cards, bigz's I'd imagine. Or does that get split fairly evenly and I just have no idea what's going on behind-the-scenes?

I know what whine you mean but definately not everything has it. It's so irritating because I get that exact same noise from the PSU of my no-moving-parts EPIA rig, thus rather defeating the purpose of no moving parts. And I definately haven't blown out my high-frequency hearing... yet. Low to some extent as I've had a sub for a while, but now that I finally have some speakers that can do some decent highs I'll stand a chance of balancing things out. Anyways, it's definately a sign of something dying if you ask me, our old TV did it really loudly before it kicked the bucket.

We've really reached a point where LCDs are prefectly acceptable for gaming at just about almost any level. Yeah, the first ones were terrible (though I never noticd ghosting on mine) and it's almost to the point where you need to be a purist/elitest/penny-pincher to use a CRT. Yeah, we can only upgrade displays so often, but unless cash is tight there's not a whole lot of reason to still buy a CRT.

IMO anyways. And you can find good LCDs for great prices - I got my 20" WS for $396 shipped, outstanding price even not considering that the $250 I paid for my ol' 15" (analog only) was about $100 cheaper than ANYTHING else available. Picked up a 17" digital for just over $200 for someone else's build, only thing 'wrong' was the 5:4 aspect ratio (you can't go thinner from widescreen...)

another vote for crt's here...1600x1200 at 100Hz, on 21" viewable...the only way to fly!

with the sound emition, Bindi, you must have been exposed to an awful lot of dodgy screens, as strictly speaking it's not meant to be there, but age, and discrepancy on the parts mean that every monitor will essentially be different to the one before it, so no guarantee that it wont start squeaking after a day, week, month, year, several years!

Yes, but by contrast my LCD is coming up to 3 years old and not a single peep.

almost, the big dell WS's are so nearly good enough, im hoping the next gen will be better
for me its the resolution thing
its a 20" WS desktop TFT and its resolution is what 1680x1050?
now go look at dell's laptops
    15.4" laptop tft 1920x1200!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111111111111111111111
why the hell cant i get a 20" or smaller tft that does 1920x1200

and 19" 5:4 tft's run at a crappy 1280x1024, wtf is that about, i'd want 1600x1200 at least with that size screen
i wouldn't mind having to pay a premium for it but its really annoying because they can clearly make panels that good as laptops have them and they just dont offer them for desktops at all
    its insane :(

My Sony is great for watching TV and DVDs, but sucks for gaming. If you sit at a reasonable distance, everything is fine.

It's the same with any large TV though, the min distance you have to sit at is 1.5-2x the size of the screen.

work on a completly different principle though...as i am sure you have observed aswell, the whole noise emittion seems to be far more common with tv's/crt screens, which are all still of the classic design of the electrons (please insert correct term, if i got it wrong) being fired at the screen, being controlled by fairly big sized magnets!!
i am not sure exactly what it is, but im sure its a combination of the above, and some kind of transformer which leads to the noise problem...

will try to dig out a proper source when im back at home...

Truth be told, projection TVs are miserable. It is all but impossible to find a genuinely decent looking one. I dont plan on going flat panel until OLEDs come about.
