    Hi People.
A question: I have formatted my C: drive on a number of occasions and found that my progs especially games BF2 etc seem to run/load better and faster. So instead of saving stuff to my external F: drive, I formatted it and then I just used it for BF2 would I still get the same result run/load better and faster. Many Thanks :wallbash:

    Welcome to the forums :thumb:

Formatting and reinstalling does increase load times as you're basically getting rid of any crap you might have installed. There's also no/minimum fragmentation after a fresh install, so that helps too.

In terms of running from an external drive, you'll probably see worse performance. The transfer rate of USB/Firewire/LAN is still considerably slower than that of IDE/SATA (I'm assuming you're using one of the above methods to hook up your external drive?)

To keep load times to a minimum, your best bet it to carry on as normal (installing apps/games to your main HDD), but run virus/spyware scans as often as possible, and defragment your drive frequently.

Or, if you've got the cash to spare, buy yourself a nice fast SATA drive and use it solely for Program Files and games - you'll still need to defragment the drive, but probably not as often.

Thanks for the welcome & reply. I have 2 x 74Gig 10,000rpm Raptors Set up for Raid 0.
So I should continue as I am but run regular virus/spyware scans & defrag. Can you recommend a good anti spyware prog. I am using Softspy at the moment but are they any good ?

Yeah, just do what you're doing now...10,000rpm drives in RAID 0 should be pretty quick as it is (and here's me running stuff from a 5,400rpm drive!)

As for anti-spyware, I tend to use SpyBot and Ad-Aware.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but RAID 0 does nothing noticable for gaming, except increase the chance of a failure...
