I don't notice any different with my kvm plugged in or with the monitor plugged straight into the video card.

With a good KVM and good cables (more importaint) you should see no difference..

i have a four port manual jobby that occasionally causes me problems. The main thing being that sometimes (and its reasonably rare) when i flip from one to the other, the new screen will appear but the mouse and keyboard will not work.

I'd love to see a USB mouse and keyboard option on these. I'm sure they'd be better for switching too and fro

Most KMV switches cause no problems because they are manually switching and have little to do with the connection. Some of the other KMV switches, the ones that have automatic switching or switch by a combination of keys on the KB, do cause some problems. The one I have makes the maximum fps 30.

I have a automatic switching one it is does not affect my FPS. One monitor you may not notice the difference with or without a KVM but I run a pair of identical Sony 17" LCDS. After connected the KVM switch to the second monitor I have noticed a little "fuzziness" with smaller text at 1280x1024. Also the color is a little off. Displaying an image the difference will not be visable but put the same image on both monitor and I have noticed blues look a little greyer. The functionality you will gain will outweight any difference.

I have a cheap trendnet one as well (was about $25), and it works great, kinda fugly cuz it has cables coming out of each side of the box, but not a big deal... It has both a button and key combo to switch, no probs with gaming at all, i run HL2 and whatnot w/ my 17" LCD (analog)....and with my Logitech mx duo.

do keep in mind that alot of KVM switches have a max resolution that they will work with.

I run a KVM, it's fine and I don't see any degredation in quality on the screen, which is a bonus. There are said to be drops in quality of the output, but I'm not seeing a great deal of them at the moment, so all is good for me.
