    Hey All,

Not sure if this should be in tech support, but have slotted it in here for now as General gets more coverage and would like a wide opinion on this one. (Mods feel free to move if you truly think this shouldn't be in general).

Basically I am looking to setup a pet project site, and I have never bought web hosting and/or a domain name.

Does anyone have any hosting with someone now? Or know of any good hosts?

My main interest is price, and am looking to host a site using Drupal (for now, but possibly Ruby on Rails later), which will be mostly text based with a scattering of images.

    Any help is appreciated! :thumb:

I've used eukhost since pretty much they were formed and they've gone from strength to strength, its nice to see a small company grow over the years. I too run drupal, have had a clan site on a subdomain and several friends also hosted. They're hosting packages are fairly decent and tech support is fast and efficient. I also used lcn for a while, i only used them for a friends site that i setup so can't really comment, i'd definately take a butchers at eukhost though! Wish i had time to sort out my site though :s

    www.tsohost.co.uk

They run bit's servers (at least, they used to). They offer a tonne of stuff for £15 a year + domain registration cost. Can't be beat, they're a small company and they won't try to screw you over.

one.com are also good. Im paying £10/year for a .com and email domain. I don't use the website at all though so cant comment on the hosting features, I only bought it for a professional looking email address for CVs and such.

Still using One.com as well, but I'm planning on changing to a different host for next year. They only allow one database, so if you're running a CMS in addition to anything else that already uses your database, then you're stuck. If you're not running a CMS, and it's just a simple HTML/CSS site, then go for it.

I'm paying a bit more than £10 p/year though, but I have more storage space for photos. They also sting you if you don't pay on time. I ended having to pay an additional £20 because I was a week late (that's what I get for not checking my emails)

TSOhost has a fantastic reputation. 34sp.com has always served me well but they are expensive. In terms of hosting though, IMO, you get what you pay for. Hence why I gave up with shared hosting and bought a VPS. Would be overkill for you though!

Another vote for TSOhost, bit-tech runs on them and they are run by a bit-techer.

I've hosted many sites with them for personal use in the past and never had any problems.

Thanks alot guys, think I will go with TSOHost! :)

Getting tired of trying to make a blog look decent in Blogspot! Many hours wasted in messing around with JQuery workarounds by hosting files on DropBox etc...

Finally got it looking ok, but just think I'll jump to Wordpress for the blog (in sig) and Drupal for a seperate site.
