Ok, one question before i go out and buy this stuff. When i get my clearpc case *drooool* i was wondering if vinyl dye works on it? I'm going for a blue themed case and i might paint front & back of case blue but in the macro black article the guy says that you mus be veeery cautious with paint as spiderwebbing will occur i dot want to take the chance of that and do any of you guys know of any other options for painting acrylic? I would really apreciate some help. I'm thinking bout making MacroBloo becuase that case he made was an inspiration for me.but i just need silver window tint or whatever he used on his case along with black tint. where can i buy this though? Not mapplin's or whatever i live in the states. I might be able to find this stuff if i ask around but i really really reallywould appreciat help on the painting issue. (p.s. - I want to thank all the guys here. You're all very helpful and a comic relief )
I'm pretty sure macro used paint not dye, you should go back and read his articles and the threads tht go with them. I'm pretty sure that question came up in one of them.
macro painted the inside of the case... i don't think vinyl dye would work on acrylic because of the surface type... though i may be wrong.... in any case (no pun intended)... i'd paint the inside... just do light layers... should be fine
i cant find the mirror tint either. ive found limo black but no mirror stuff. it is illegal in my state though, that might be why.
ya up north you wont be able to find the solar stuff... but if youve got a friend in florida or alabama, its in every pep boys down there.god i miss orlando.
Brian, found some online at a decent price: http://www.carlovershop.com/karpart...orderidentifier=ID101491056701530744D467D672C
Yes! Vinyl dye does work quite well on acrylic (I haven't tested polycarbonate, so make sure you know your material). But be aware you can order colored acrylic parts for the clearPC. Have you ordered it yet?
You can check with Clear-View perhaps for parts. Be careful with choosing the window film --most mirrored films I've seen max out at 22% (will allow only 22% of the light in--or light out as in this case). Have seen in the past a few that go up to 35%. Not sure how much percentage of light emission a neon-lit case needs to look good. (Linear?)
W00T!!!!!!! YEEEHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA YES YES YES YES!!! Sorry I'm a little overjoyed! I just found EXACTLY what i wanted on ebay. One way mirror window tint. So... I'll use the vinyl stuff on the front and back of the case and then apply this stuff to the sides and top!! Add in some stealthed drives and Mmmmmmmm..... This is gonna be my big pimpin' comp at LANs! WOW big blue and mirror comp that turns see through whe its on! ooohhh. Dang too bad the state of Illinois limits the amount of hours a 14 year old can work gonna take me till next fall to finish this comp. Ooh can't wait!
From Macro's article.... "This is true of both the chrome and black films. The black film has a light transmission value of 20%." http://bit-tech.net/article/63/7
dang.... long time lft on this project I just figured out how long its gonna take me to get this comp done (well there is always stuff to mod ) But then again... there is never enough money. I'll see boutordering case and geting all of it done in mid-summer-ih time and the comp will be dont sept-oct in the fall. I only make $6.15 an hour and the $1,800 I'm gnna need will take a while oh yeah by the way. My parents are friends of the local Harley-Davidson dealership owner! I'm gonna get some templates for a SWEET paint job. I'll post a little preveiw I'll make in photshop for ya guys.
