Most of the time real Wisconsin cheddar cheese and sometimes mozzarella if the mood strikes me

I actually can't stand cheese in a burger, but usually i stick to the best I can afford at the time

    i.e

    Edam
    mozzarella for pizza's
    cheddar

and if I am making cheese straws, Red Leicester which is basically a cheddar dyed orange, but it has a better flavour for this type of savoury snack of win.

I stopped looking at American foods when I found spray on cheese in a can. Sorry but i can no longer take food suggestions from a country that took harmless cheese and decided to propel it out of a can as an aerosol!

Yeah, but have you looked at the artisanal cheeses being produced in small farms in Vermont, New Hampshire, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Don't let one product throw you on American cheeses. You'd be amazed at what you will find. It's like letting box wine throw you off of all the tasty small vineyards in California. It's the baby and the bathwater.

I had some Vermont cheddar while I was in Idaho, blew my mind. But then I've also seen cheese spray and marshmallow sandwich spread. They probably dont call it American cheese over hear due to EU regulations that require cheese to contain milk, over here it would probably be classified as bathroom sealant.

Subway even call their cheese American Cheese. Personally, I can't stand the stuff. I'm a sucker for some good mozarella personally.

American cheese, terrible as it is, has its uses.

    Grilled cheese sandwich anyone? :)

Red Leicester/Cheddar for that, then. Or cream cheese, though you have to partially toast the bread before spreading it on, or it goes soggy.

(I may(!) be a little odd, but) I like Cheshire on toast, too...

I love cheese. Just about everything, but processed, although I eat even that when nothing else is available. Also it suits the McD-burgers as they suck no matter what cheese is in between.

Feta for sallads/generic food, Mozzarella for pizza, cheddar for burgers, gouda/edam/cream cheese(?) on bread.

I'm surprised that nobody has yet mentioned the most important type of cheese there is. Superior to all other cheeses, crafted in heaven, stolen by Prometheus. Truly the ambrosia of Relix himself...

    Cheesecake!
