i'm just getting started trying to do mods to my case, and the thing i'm trying out first is i want to change the LEDs in my case to a blue and a white one. i found some colored ones at Radio Shack (bigger around, but i can drill out that hole...). my question is, what voltage LED do i need to get? they had 5v and 3.6 and 3.7 V versions, and i just didn't know which to get. any help would be appreciated. TIA.

    this is what i think.

5v leds probably wont work because the power from the motherboard won't be enough to light the thing.

i think i am using a 3.7v led in my power light, and it works fine, but i am not sure......

all i kno is that when i bought a 5v blue led from radioshack and put it in, it didn't light at all. then when i saw their 3.7v one, i stuck it in and it lit efficiently.

btw, what do you mean you need to drill a bigger hole? that doesn't sound normal. my leds fit right in, no need for drilling...

in regards to drilling, i can't find any smaller leds than 5mm, and the ones in my case right now are, i thought, 3mm. they're a hell of a lot smaller, in any case. so, i'd have to drill the holes out a little bigger to fit them into my case.

IF you have a cheap multieter around, slap one across the sides of the led, and measure the Voltage, then search for a led with the same or greater requirement.

3.6 and 3.7 will work just fine. You don't need current limiting resistors in this case. If you want to order T-1 size LEDs, try www.digikey.com or www.mouser.com.
