So about 6 months ago i had to sell all my canon gear (it was a sad day). BUt i was able to replace it with a panasonic G3 which is great for what it is. But i am finding i am missing greatly having a full sized "real" dSLR. So now i am starting to get the itch. My question is this. Which is the better bang for your buck. Canon 5d MKII Currently priced at $2399 CDN (Body Only) Canon 7d Currently Priced at $1699 CDN (Body Only) Also if there is equivalent options from Nikon those are an option as well as i am starting fresh. No left over glass. I just have never used nikon so i don't have any experience with them. As for lens's i haven't given much thought to what i should get first.
Canon 5D Mk2 is a "pro" grade body with a full frame sensor; the 7D has a crop sensor but a much more advanced focus system than the 5D2 and also much higher continuous shooting speed. It really depends what you want to shoot - the 5D2 is a favourite amongst wedding photographers because of its great low light capability (despite the weak AF), and the 7D is great for sports/reportage. If you're open minded you should seriously consider a Nikon D7000 - amazing camera and probably a fair bit cheaper than either of the Canon models above, but very similar in stature and spec to a 7D.
Primary Uses would be. 1. Prime Focus Astro Photography 2. Sports/Fast Action 3. Family Events (might end up using the g3 for that though) I took a look at the D7000. Very competitively priced around $1040 CDN. However this big another questions. Since the D7000 as essentially a crop sensor. Would it still be a better bang for the buck purchase over the slightly cheaper 60D of around $940 CDN.
