I have a XP 2200+ processor. I am getting more case fans as well as a thermalright slk-800 heatsink soon. Right now I have a small aluminum heatsink with a weak little fan. I set it to run at max speed so its running at 5500 rpms. The temp of the cpu is an average of 50C doing normal stuff like surfing and typing. I know this is hotter than it should be, but what I'd like to know is how much. So what is a good average temp. for this cpu?

Yeah 50 is a little toasty. You could get it down to roughly 38 at ambeint temperatures.

yes 50 is a little high and i wouldn't like to know what it reaches under heavy load! With the SLK-800 you are getting i would expect for your temperatures to be low 40's idle and high 40's load.

    Muahaha I got my XP2400+ down to 28°C last night...with a Vantec Aerocool.

That's a pretty high temperature, it's probably to do with airflow in your case as much as anything. I checked out a mate's computer and I realised that the people who put the case together for him put the front intakes blowing out and the rear blower pulling air in...swapping them back dropped him 5-8°.
