Hey folks, I need to upgrade my PSU and was looking at a couple models that have jumped out at me. I wanted to see if anyone had these, and if there was anything they could comment on. I welcome other recommendations as well, as long as they are for QUIET PSUs... I mean Silent to Barely Audible from up close! The main contender so far is the Zalman ZM1000-HP, but it's pretty pricey. The SilentPC Review site made it sound like something holy (though they can't imagine needing that much juice!) I saw it for 214 on newegg. that's a lotta money, though. Next up was the Tuniq Miniplant 950 which seems to have some low decibels. It's a little cheaper on newegg with a rebate, but no free shipping! Thoughts? FYI.. I'm running currently: QX9650, GTX 275, couple of drives. I'll be soon adding another 275 for sli. Later I might water cool and light it up with this PSU, so I will need some good solid power. Please help me confirm the need for a monster like this, and let me benefit from the benefit of the many experiences you've had with your PSU brands/models.
bump cause I'm surprised no responses... Want to get this PSU NOW... thoughts? Zalman for 214, Tuniq for 199 after rebate... SLI GTX 275...
I'm a big fan of the Zalman ZM-*HP series myself... weren't you aware that they had a 850W version of the same PSU? - Diosjenin -
Lol, now you tell me... j/k I wasn't sure of the power load I would put on it, and wanted to leave some overhead.
Yeah, sorry. Didn't notice this topic existed until after you bought the 1K, for whatever reason. Selective blindness, I guess. Well, hey, it's not like you're going to be disappointed with your purchase. Besides, it'll probably outlast the entire rest of your setup - so if you do something power-hungry in a few years on a level approaching psychotic (like Tri-SLI or QuadFire), you'll be more than set. - Diosjenin -
thanks. Yeah, I'm expecting great things from this PSU. I agree about the outlasting... It's kinda like my mom buying me jackets 2 sizes too big as a kid so I had room to grow! I can't wait for the loudest thing in the PC to be the GFX card on high.
