Had to be done... For me i had both and ended up keeping the xbox for many of the reasons pointed out so far, xbox live, large selection of games to choose from etc. I ended up buying a stand-alone blu-ray player for £200 as the picture and sound was superior to that of the PS3
I wouldn't recommend using the Wii to knock your friends sister up, Xbox simply seems to be the winner for most people while PS3 is more of an alternative to the RROD.
Unless your dead set on getting a console/already have a gaming pc I'd still recommend getting a gaming pc - the bit-tech buying guides make a very good recommendation for a gaming pc at about £500. Which is a lot more than a console - but seeing as you need a PC anyway its no more expensive than a basic PC + console.
I own a Wii, Xbox 360 and now recently a ps3. The Wii - Well i havnt touched in months - its covered in dust. But that is not to say it isnt good but the appeal is very limited. The ps3 is great for bluray. I only bought it because I had capital bond vouchers and got a ps3, resistance 2, littlebigplanet, prince of persia, metal gear solid 4 and a HDMI cable - all for £43. If i didnt have the vouchers and had to spend the money on it - i wouldnt because even having owned it now i can safely say the xbox 360 is much better. Positives for the ps3 is yes, it has everything built in, wifi, good harddrive, bluray etc BUT its pointless because: The xbox 360 has superior online gaming whereas the ps3 is very basic despite it being built it. The xbox 360 needs a wifi adapter if you cant reach a ethernet cable to the xbox which is a pain. The ps3 has metal gear 4...but thats really the only thing. The xbox has much more and better games overall - better being the actual games catalog is better and the multiplatform ones turn out better on the xbox because its easier to code for - the ps3 ones are rampant with glitches usually (atleast i have found, pro evo series, prince of persia )
XBox360 is fine if you enjoy the sound of an industrial vacuum cleaner at close quarters. And then the thought that, one day, it's going to fail or randomly scratch your favourite game you've nearly completed. Luckily, I sold mine. I played the PS2 more, tbh. I don't know why network gaming on PS3 is knocked so much. I've had thrills and spills on Burnout Paradise, Resistance 2 beta, LBP and watched kerrazy videos on Singstar. It all worked pretty flawlessly for me. It's very much swings and roundabouts, if you like one, go for it. You'll enjoy it no end.
It all comes down to one question: Do you want to spend your time playing games? or do you want to spend your time on hold with Jamal ( aka. George ) form Microsoft Tech Support India?
Congratulations, newcomer! Yours was the absolute first totally non-constructive fanboy remark to enter this thread. You won the race. You beat the entire userbase to the enviable act of lowering the tone. Up until reading your contribution I was thinking what a blessedly a-typical community BiT is, where someone can ask this question and have no flames erupt. I'd give you a medal but you'd probably try to eat it, and choke. [/attitude] I prefer the 360's controller, the sixaxis never really grabbed me. But other than that the PS3 is a sweet machine. I can't justify the cost with the limited range of games, though - and I don't know anybody with one, so social gaming would be out, which is mainly what consoles have over PCs in the first place.
It's not that loud but even if it does annoy you you can install the games to the HDD (which decreases load times on most games) and the 360 becomes almost silent. While the reliability of the 360 has been quite poor it is improving over time if the OP was to buy a new console it's not gonna be anywhere near as likely to fail as the older models. My own 360 is from August 06, still going strong but I'm probably just one of the lucky ones. I find it funny you mentioned the PS2... it was pretty bad for reliability I knew many people on their 3rd (or higher) PS2s.
Since most Bit-tech users have gaming PC's myself included I always feel PS3 is a better choice, that is what justified my purchase anyway. Most 360 exclusives end up on the PC at some point where as PS3 exclusives don't. Just my two cents
This is exactly why I ended up with a PS3 that and its just so damn great (well I think anyway) Although the controller of the X360 is leaps and bounds ahead of the PS3 one. I use one for PC gaming and I have to say I think its amazing! I'd have to disagree with the argument that the PS3 doesn't have a good catalogue of games, having only recently got my PS3 I find I'm getting alot of the platinum games and the variety is immense, whereas i feel the X360 is mostly FPS and racers... If you do decide on a PS3 though get the giotec real triggers, they cost about 3 quid and they make the pad so much more comfortable. I can't use my pad with out them now!
I would just say buy whatever your friends have. There are other things to consider which have already been pointed out in this thread, but that is the main point.
As an owner of all 3 gaming systems, I'm more inclined to put my money on the 360. Yeah, its louder and you have the risk of RROD, but its cheaper. 99% of the games look better. Most of my mates have the 360 and that makes a big difference. Online play requires paying for, but the PSN can't cope with the 1.5m concurrent users that XBL hit the other week. I take issue with a post earlier in this thread stating that you HAD to buy a wireless adapter. Who in their right mind would use wifi for gaming? You don't get a headset included in the PS3 making the online affair pretty quiet. PS3 pads feel pretty cheap and flimsy, but I've always found this with PS stuff. I've still not quite found anything like Motorstorm : Pacific Rift on the 360 though Oh yeah, watch out for the YLoD
I havnt even read the thread and I feel qualified to add... OH NO YOU DIDNT! The size 5 with caps was fully justified.
The Thread The Thread was which is better PS3 or Xbox360 but Fiddlebot said im not allowed to do this so i am going to stop.
