ok, remove 1 GPU. So have a single GPU on your computer with 1 monitor, and see if the system can handle Aero. If it works, try the second GPU replacing the first one (to see if a GPU is broken or not). From my understanding you have 2 monitors. Attach the 2 monitors and see if it still runs fine. If you conclude that when you put 2 GPU Aero lag, than we are clear at 100% it's something related to SLI and not a broken GPU or something. You tweaks are mostly crap. - Disabling UAC doesn't make your computer faster in any way (for your system specs), it just prevent you of counting the time to take your mouse and click on the "continue" button (or use the keyboard). It's an illusion. Disabling UAC is strongly NOT recommended by about anyone who knows what UAC is. System restore is always useful. It Allows you to go back in time on a file, folder, drive or computer. As for indexing... this slows does not your system for the first day as it index everything. It's configurable so you can select which folders or drive you want it to index, so that it doesn't index useless stuff (see control panel > Index). Usually you leave your computer over night and Index should be done in the morning. You are using a desktop computer and you have the power to see any slow down for day-to-day activity. Heck all the above don't affect me, and my system is no were near your performance as for CPU and memory quantity and speed. As for the rest.. well that are the usual Windows tweaks, (ie: disable what you don't use.) Oh and disabling Aero... normally when you have no problem, disabling Aero is the worst thing you can do unless you have anything crappier than an Intel X3100 GPU. As it uses the CPU to render (like our gold old Windows') and not the GPU. Sure Aero uses the CPU to draw the content of a window... as this is normal, as explorer and all your applications are not magically using CUDA or DirectX or Open GL to draw itself (well except for games). So anything helps at boosting your CPU power, which sucks at rendering graphics.
Ok. I will try the gpu test. But first I want to enable everything again and see what WEI i get. It will kind of be a pain to pul the vid cards seeing they are tubed together. I think I can just pull them out enough so their not in the pci slot. but when sli is disabled, the gpu are independant. I have one monitor plugged into each card. So each gpu is powering a display. So i would think that if a gpu was bad,... one of my displays would be down. Pulling one card would tell me wether or not having two cards in the system is causing problems with areo. So i will do it. but later though. im tired. worked all night. keep you posted.
I just enabled Aero and UAC again. I did the WEI and it gave me all 5.9's again. I haven't pulled my cards yet one at a time. I am kinda worried that I will only be able to test the first card. Reaon being that if I pull the first card the machine might ask for me to place the second card in the first slot. So yea. I'm goign to mess aroudn with vista a bit more to see if theres anything I can do. One thing I have already done was disable window dragging so that I only drag the border. Thats really helps because that was my biggest annoyance. Wiondow smearing while dragging fast.
Something is wrong with your system (hardware, drivers...)... not Vista itself. You are not the first with SLI under Vista. Just cross your fingers it's not your motherboard.
