The take up of display port, however superior it may be has just not happened and is destined to go the same way as FireWire and betamax. Also, you don't know the people I know. Quite a few of them have decent 30 inch monitors and all use DVI. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Make sure to send out the duell link version for high resolution displays 27 and 30 is a must not sure about 24 inch ones. DVI naturally but good quality ones. We have some cheap ass ones at work from one shipment and nothing but problems with them. Visual fussy picture, falling apart, real nightmare. Sent from Bittech Android app
Heumm no. List of companies supporting and pushing DisplayPort: Agilent Altera AMD Graphics Product Group Analogix Apple Astrodesign Broadcom Corporation Chi Mei Optoelectronics Chrontel Dell Display Labs Foxconn Electronics Genesis Microchip HP Hosiden Hirose Electric Group Intel I-PEX Integrated Device Technology JAE Electronics Kawasaki Microelectronics (K-Micro) Lenovo LG Display Luxtera Molex NEC NVIDIA NXP Semiconductors Parade Technologies Realtek Semiconductor Samsung SMK STMicroelectronics SyntheSys Research Inc. Matrox Graphics MSI MStar Semiconductor Palit Microsystems Ltd. Pioneer Corporation S3 Graphics Toshiba Philips Quantum Data Sparkle Computer Unigraf DisplayPort isn't going anywhere. BetaMax has Sony and that was it. FireWire has Apple and that was it.
DisplayPort is the future, as it is an evolving specification that will support future monitor resolutions, whereas DVI is a dead end as it cannot go further than the 2560x1660 at 60Hz we find in the 30"ers. Of course, right now, that means DVI is just as valid a choice for connectivity, but in 2-3 years, it'll all be DisplayPort. 4K is going to kill DVI, as it simply can't push the pixels.
What a long list of nobodies. Admit it, display pit is going down like a lead balloon. No one uses it. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Congrads...nah. Go outside and breathe some air. Turn your green light off and suck in the IPS air. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 I think I just did. Betamax rules! This is an enthusiast website, put a poll up. I bet less than 10% use dp.
Apart from people like Samsung, Dell, LG, Viewsonic etc, all shifting huge amounts of consumer screens. Also, please acquaint yourself with the edit button, multi-posting is a no-no.
I am aware of the edit button. Hardly crime of the century is it. Aren't opinions allowed on here anymore? Those manufacturers do shift huge amounts of screens but still a small minority come with DP.
Blimey. It all got a bit heated in here, didn't it?! Don't worry about that We already provide dual link cables with higher resolution monitors and chances are we will provide more than just power and DVI cables with higher end monitors
Not true, I just bought pretty much the cheapest 19" monitor HP do, and that came with DP. Also, as per above, DVI will be phased out over the next 5 years, as it doesn't support anything above 1600p.
Every new laptop comes with a DisplayPort connector nowadays. Can't say I've ever seen a DVI port on a laptop.
Yeah, laptops is one of the things we'll have to be aware of because like you say, most of them don't come with DVI. However, we'll be giving people the option to have a VGA cable instead if it's needed/preferred. And while Display Port is arguably the best cable, it's not dominant at the moment, so we'll cross that bridge when it comes to it.
