Ok so I'm planning a new mod, and I want to put my own power/reset switches into it, but I've never done it before so I'm just planning it right now. What I am wondering is, can you buy the 'connectors' (bits on the end of the wires with the orange stuff over it) that let you plug the wire onto the pins on the switch, like in this pic

Or do you have to solder the wires onto the pins on the switch? Hopefully you understand the question :p

    Thanks!

You can buy them, they're called spade connectors (the female side).

Normally you just crimp one end over the wire with a pair of pilers and then slide it over the male connector. You might find that the switch has the wrong size male bit though.

In the UK you can normally get them from a car spare parts shops - cos they're used alot for car electrics.

yeah, you can get them from an auto parts store. if your making your own cables though youll need a mobo connector on the other end of the button or led. i would suggest trying to get some normal replacement case lights and buttons and simply chopping off and resoldering the ends of them. or you could make them out of some HDD jumpers if you were really desperate, but i dont suggest making them, you mightblow something.

Yeah what I was thinking of doing is getting the necessary wires and chopping the ends off, so it's just the mobo connector and bare wires, and then putting the wires onto the switch. Would this work?

Speaking of wiring, that reminds me that I have some wires to extend before i go to bed :)

But yeah, you can buy those ends at anywhere from wal*mart to your local auto parts store. Also check some car audio shops, they tend to have nifty little connectors that might be even more what you'd like :)

I just finished doing this with the Bulgin switches. I didn't buy the pre-wired headers because I figured I could find the same fittings locally. Turns out the connectors on the bulgin switch are an unusual size. Thank God, they put a hole in each post though. I ended up soldering and heatshrinking the connection by putting the wire in through the hole and folding it over and adding a spot of solder. it turned out very clean looking and extremely durable compared to the connector type fittings.

That sounds like a good idea eddie_dane, probably easier than looking round for some connectors.

I don't like using crimp on connectors as much either and for my build I soldered the wires to it and then put heatshrink over it. But to facilitate removing my front bezel I wire in series a two pin locking connector (I have the non-LED Bulgin switch) so I don't have to unplug it from the motherboard headers. And since my cables are run in a sleeve and stealthed this helps alot. I actually did this to all my switches and LEDs.
