There was a program about the highways agency (among other things) on last week. Apparently, they sometimes choose to slow all the traffic down behind them to clear debris off the motorways
Ultra comes from Latin. In particular, it means "Beyond". Ultrasonic literally means that the frequency of the sound that is produced (in this case by the autofocus motor in the lens) is beyond the hearing of humans and most animals. Admittedly, it's not 100% ultrasonic, but most of the sound produced by running the autofocus can be considered Ultrasonic.
I pre-ordered an item online for £30 about a month ago. I just received an email from the retailer telling me that they wont sell me the item for that amount (its priced £100 elsewhere). Are they allowed to do this? Shouldn't they honour the initial agreement?
This depends entirely on the pre-order agreement itself. If money has exchanged hands, you've effectively entered into a contract to exchange a set amount for a particular product. As such, they can't take money and then say "Oh, no product until you give us 70 quid more". In fact, I believe this could even be considered extortion. Unfortunately, the retailer is perfectly within their rights to refund you your money and not sell you your product. However - I know a lot of pre-orders are simply a case of them taking down your details and then being told when you can go and pay for it - in these cases, this is not contractually binding. It's simply a gratitude offered by the merchant. So - to cut a long story short: if money has left your hands, you have a right to either (a) request your money back as nothing has been delivered, or (b) depending on the terms of the sales agreement you consented to by handing over your money, insist the retailer honours their agreement by giving you the product, rather than demanding more money. If you can't do either of these, it's probably best to nip down to your nearest citizens advice bureau, as I think you'll find they're breaking retail laws and regulations.
Awesome Nexxo, I want to get one, the only place I can find it is on eBay, here. I used to play Descent 2 and Forsaken every weekend at my friends house for about a year straight, this was a long time ago. I never got enough time using the thing but I definitely want to get it to rejuvenate my gaming nostalgia. Does yours have a USB connection? The one on eBay is really expensive, will have to wait till I get hold of some money or a refund on my taxes.
No, it's serial only, I'm afraid. Yonks ago there was a Sony PS1 version that did have a USB port, but I suspect no PC drivers. It really works only on dedicated games; on Descent and Forsaken it works beautifully. Still, works will in Quake or UT with some tweaking; the only controller with which you can run circles around an enemy while pointing the gun inwards all the time.
It'll be on here somewhere, probably "Summer Overture", although it's a common theme throughout the soundtrack. I'd definately recommend it, a wonderful listen.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/tickets/ - the waiting lists for stuff like Top Gear and NMTB are going to be enormous though.
In YouTube, is there still a way to view videos in the original (smaller) size. The button for it (next to the fullscreen button) seems to have disappeared and I can't stand watching blurry videos in the wrong aspect ratio.
I see what you mean! I can't seem to find any links or buttons to re-enable this feature: maybe it was just something that not many people used?
It does sound good - I found a 6 minute version of the intro on youtube, which is what I'm really after - already got the CD in the car for when I'm on the way home from work...
God im so glad this thread exists! Another stupid question from me and this time its for a presentation infront of people so please lets not make a mistake! very delicate mattter! : I have a friend thats of mixed heritage - his mother his afro-caribbean and his father is white/british - I am doing a presentation on his background and i wanted to make sure this is "politically" correct to say? as in " He is of a duel heritage background, his mother is afro-caribbean and father was white-british." I know many people use to say "half-caste" before but i heard thats no longer acceptable and I dont want to give the wrong impression...lol Is this ok to use? Strange thing is this friend of mine doesnt give two hoots how hes described
Dual-heritage, Mixed-race, it's all much of a muchness really. I can see how some people could see " 'Arf-carst" (as it's said round here) as offensive, I'm not 100% on the others as I'm (mostly*) only white british. *Mostly as in the usual mish-mash of every european country, the same as every other briton.
