i have an ASUS VW224T 22" widescreen monitor. newegg lists the refresh rate as "30 ~ 82KHz horizontal" and "56 ~ 76 Hz vertical". how does one interpret this? does that mean 76hz (ie. 75hz) would be my max safe refresh rate?

Usually the highest number (in this case 72hz) is the refresh rate if you want to run the monitor at 800x600 resolution. That is indeed a very low resolution.

The refresh rate at max resolution is still 60hz (typical). There isn't really a safe or unsafe refresh rate, because you will not be able to set the monitor to a higher refresh rate than it can display.

that seems like a ridiculous way to list a refresh rate to me. why list a refresh rate that only works at a resolution much lower than the screens native (other than just for the sake of conforming to a nearly obsolete standard)?

    crazy engineers.

    oh well, 60hz it is.

    EDIT: also, repped :thumb:
