Motors Quick survey of petrol prices

    Don't forget that UK petrol is almost always 95 Octane.
    In the USA, most people just go for the cheapest stuff which is around 86.

    That's a good point, bring most unmodified UK cars over there and it'd run pretty badly...

    does that mean cars in the us cost more to make? this seems so unfair lol! then again at least the government gets something from the tax which they could use on environmentally friendly things. (not that they would cause they waste it all)

    Ah, but they measure their stuff on a different system, MON i believe. It ends up as the same stuff if measured (or whatever) on our RON system.

    I'm in San Diego. California's prices are higher than Hawii's... stupid California...

    The "cheap stuff" in the US is actually 83 octane. But, I believe as RTT says, it's a differnet measuring system. The "high-test" fuel is 93 octane and anything above I think 95 is considered racing fuel. There's a gas station in town that sells 100 octane fuel though. Last I checked, it was around $4.75 / gallon...

    $1000 dollar vehicle for a poor college student. At $100 payments a month. If you can find me something cheaper, I'll drive it instead.
