hey guys, im trying to hook 2 12v items to the same switch, what i want is to get a multi position switch, at least 4 positions i guess. i want it to be like off - item 1 on - item 2 on - 1 and 2 on. anyone know how to wire this? and what kind of switch i would need? a bat handle style switch would look best aesthetically but if there is a kind of rotary switch that would work better that would be cool too.

All I can find for 4 position slide switches only refer to manufactures. Rotary switches on the other hand are easily found.
What are you switching, were is the switch to be housed, and would you be opposed to using a switch for each.

There are some cheap and common fit-your-own-choice-of-knob rotary switches like these but the contacts are only rated 150mA, so watch that rating when you find one. You'll need more than one 'way' to switch power to A, B or (A&B).

I don't think you will easily find a toggle or slide switch with that capability, but multi-pole rotary switches should allow that.

As cpemma mentioned these typically do not have a lot of current capacity, so you may need to investigate that further.
