Well I have just got my RMA request approved for my card. My card had the black screen PC lockup bug. Despite trying Beta and whql drivers I couln't get it stable. My card also had the Elpdia memory chips that according to this forum poll are on the majority of the cards with the issue. http://www.overclock.net/t/1441349/290-290x-black-screen-poll/120 So anyone else here having any issues?
New Gigabyte 290 today, returning tomorrow. Horrific coil whine where it sounds like i'm being invaded by billions of crickets and the black screen of death when stressing it. Like you I've tried both sets of drivers too. Can't check the mem chips now though because its all sealed up ready for collection.....grrr.
Ha great! I was going to chance a Gigabyte as a replacement! Maybe not hey. I might giva an XFX model a try.
Good luck! I've asked for a refund, going to wait until the bugs are ironed out. For reference mine was this one with bf4 http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4846#ov
Well atleast you got a copy of BF4 for your troubles. I have a replacement coming tomorow to my work. It is a door swap so I dont have any downtime. Only downer is it will be another Sapphire card with no BF4 :-( If the replacement does the same I will have to wait until after christmas before getting sorted.
Replacement card seems good so far. still has Elpdia RAM but no black screens yet. Also scored an additional 100 points in heaven than my old 290x.
I have a vtx3d unlocked with 290x bios, this also has elpdia memory but only one black screen when i overclocked the memory too much
Well my second card has caused 2 BSOD's and locked up my rig with a red screen. Sapphire have a new version of Trixx out so I installed that last night. I have left the clocks well alone but just bumped the voltage up on the GPU and RAM a tad. I managed an hour on FarCry 3 with no crash. Im standing by on RMAing this one as I do now feel this is just a poor driver issue or perhaps card BIOS problem. I guess I will just take it one crash at a time untill an answer is given by AMD.
You have way to much patience my friend. But me being a red card fan, this is not looking good. Hopefully it is just the driver issue.
Think I'd be demanding my money back about now in truth. AMD really does need a driver team worth a dam. What happened to mantle bf4 patch thought it was due early December or was that another deadline AMD made up. R290x fast card if it works that's kinda the story of my AMD card history though, great cards when / if they work. It's the reason I'll never buy another launch AMD card don't wanna be a beta tester for £450.
I have thought about getting my money back but then the cash will just get sucked up for something else lol. I could swap for a 780 but my heart isnt in it to go with Nvidia. I have no real reason to dislike them but all my cards have always been ATI/AMD and untill now I have never had a major issue. I think I will sit it out for a few weeks and see what happens. But yes lesson learned never jump on a product so quickly after launch and paying to Beta test it :-(
I'd hold off a month and pick up one with an aftermarket cooler. Hardocp have reviewed the DirectCU II version and it smashes the stock card, not to mention troubling the 780Ti for a fair bit less money.
