No they're no good on regular crimps, they're just for the type of ferrules that are provided with it, they are used when connecting to connector blocks rather than leaving bare stranded wire

Oh so like chocolate blocks, screw terminals ect.

Those Ferrel's suitable for mains wiring or just low voltage stuff?

Mains wiring is usually 2.5mm² (albeit solid and not stranded) but that kit goes way past that up to 10mm² so it's entirely capable of being used for a mains flex for a kettle or the likes?

How much was the kit? It looks decent.

£12.99 I think, I'll be grabbing one tomoz as I hate when your are trying to put stranded wires into screw terminals ect and find they've all splayed out.

Just looked through this week's leaflet and they don't seem to be on there so availability in you local Lidl might vary.

There was about 10 left here.

Tempting, although I don't often do that sort of stuff myself £12 for a lifetime supply sounds decent. I could perhaps buy some Bratwurst at the same time?

You might be out of luck. Lidl's weekly deals change on Thursdays & Sundays.
If you see something in store that you might find useful, it's best to grab it there and then.

The ones you have in that box are called bootlace crimps. Used for stranded wire and are the best thing to ever grace this earth. I would use them everywhere if I could. I've lost count of the number of 13A plugs I've had to change because they've melted due to loose connections. Any time you have a screw-type terminal, the strands initially get clamped tight, but then they splay while the screw remains where it is. Now you have a loose connection. As you pull current through it, you generate heat, and lots of it.

Here's a trick. If the plastic part of the bootlace crimp doesn't fit in the plug, you can also take a hammer and just tap the metal part out and use that on its own.

Unfortunately, they use a different crimper than the red/blue/yellow spade crimps, but it's only about £16 and well worth having.

Thank you all now I've bought it I know what to use it for lol.

I bought another Lidl crimper a short while back for the other crimps but I can't remember if it's ratchet or not.

I tried mine out last night, worked perfectly and the quality of the crimps is ideal. I was surprised I could fit that wire in but it funnelled in perfectly and had no trouble crimping it.

Ah they had them in your local store then, glad you managed to get one.

Pleased it's all good quality too, mind you all my stuff is parkside and I don't think I have any complaints.

Actually some screw diver bits I bought broke but I think I was expecting a bit much from them so probably my fault.

For anyone wanting to get crimps for PC stuff, can highly recommend the iwiss. Miles above others I'd had

Screwdriver bits are consumable, some last more than others but none last forever. I do find that letting them slip out is usually what does them in but that's just what happens when you're doing work.
