Ok so im encountering a problem with mounthing my bip 1.120 There were no screws that came with it to mount the fan or to mount the rad to the case. Is there a special screw that needs to be used becuase i have the long fan screws and they wont hold and the fat fan screws are too big and not long enough. What do i use with out screwing into and damaging the fins of the rad?
The Black Ice series have 3mm holes, so you can use M3 screws. You can guide them through the rad (gently) without damaging the canals. Bending some of the zig-zag fins between the canals is harmless. The idea was that you could use those stubby self-tapping fan screws to screw them into the Black Ice radiator. Many people however prefer to use long M3 screws, or threaded rods with bolts at either end. Personally I just carefully drilled out the holes to 4mm with a drill press, and used M4 threaded rods.
great to know. What do i need to look out for on my rad then if i have a screw that fits but might be a bit longer?
Make sure you avoid any of the tubes running down the length of the rad if you're using long self tappers. They puncture easily, although can be mended fairly easily with a soldering iron. Bending a fin or two won't really matter, but dont flatten too many.
This man speaks the truth! It can be repaired if you hit the core tho, as he says... trusting a repaired rad to sit over your motherboard, processor and RAM is another thing.. I sold it and bought another one, and was then MUCH more careful when I fitted it.
That'd be me... Looks like it'll have to be soldered, a spot weld will be far too hot and will probably just make a bigger hole.
