I had some ramsinks attached to my video card (sapphire atlantis radeon 9600, 256 Mb) with arctic alumina thermal epoxy. They were ugly and interfered with having a PCI card below the AGP slot, so i stuck the card in teh freezer for a couple hours, took it out, and popped the heat sinks off the ram chips. i didnt use any tools besides my hands to remove the 'sinks, and took off the GPU sink so it wouldnt crack the die. once i got the sinks off, i waited about half an hour for teh card to come up to room temp (and for condensation to evaporate) before reinstalling the GPU HS with AS5.

long story short, the card now functions fine except that it displays red blocks over all teh screen in irregular patterns that change depending on which window has focus.

is my card fried or is it fixable? (tried letting it sit for another 15 min, soft rebooting, hard rebooting, pulling the power for 5 minutes, taking out and repalcing the card, cleaning the contacts, etc)

i think you might have damaged the ram, i remember my old 8500LE from hercules, the hsf was glued on to the core, i decided one day that i wanted to replace the hsf with a crystal orb which was the "in" thing back then. so i did the freezer thing, ever so gently took it off using a flat head screwdriver, didnt think i did any damage to board i was so carefull, but the gfx card was dead, didnt even switch on,

luckily pc world noob believed me when i told him that i heard a noise in my pc next thing i knew pc froze and screen never came off, looked inside and fan fell off :p

replaced, and i still have it somewhere in my box of goodies :D
