Graphics Radeon 9700 mobility for laptop - buying it as seperate

I read this amusing guide about how to mod my acer laptop linky and the thing is im all up for doing it with a big

but

theres one thing stopping me and that isthat i wana get hold of one of them ati mobility radeon 9700 cards man they look well cool for laptop technology.

but no where seems to sell them!!! just looking for the graphic card part of the laptop

anyone know where i can get them? i might needd to go to my local comet with a sledgehammer otherwise!!

 

Erm.... correct me if im wrong but on the page u linked it already has a supplier listed?

Even tho they state that this upgrade is for a Radeon mobility 9200 you could still ring them and ask if they have any radeon mobility 9700!

 

Wow, I never realised how easy it was to swap the gfx on a modern lappy, i thought they were all built in to the mobo, does this vary from manufacturer to model etc or are most modern ones modular like that ?

 

From what i gather the PCBs are generally non-generic cause lappys are built from the outside-in. But id guess one manufacturer will keep a certain pcb layout for a whole range because its cheaper.

 

Sorry where has my mind wondered off to? Yep, im aware about the suppliers available but i would just like to know of alternatives mainly because:

a) Part suppliers can very well overcharge products because its darn hard to find another supplier!

b) i might have a local one that i could it from


The plymouth supplier doesnt sell radeon9700 afaik by speaking to them on the phone. anyway thanx guys
