This has been brought up in the thread already. There are many corrosion inhibiting fluids and other ways to nullify corrosion.

Wow, that is ungodly craftsmanship there. Makes me wish I would take the time to learn all of the machines we have at work.

That is some absolutely beautiful craftmanship going on there. And its not done using a cnc machine, but using a mill and a lot of time. Nice

Nice work with that CN.... err.. well.. Just machine :)

And those blades remind me from Ravenholm! I had to think a bit before I remembered where I've seen things like that. Only difference is you seem to have less zombies in your place :D

    read the thread already!!!

he has mentioned quite a few times that he plans on anodizing the block, along with maybe using a product other than water! so it wont matter in the end!!!

lemur that block looks AMAZING and so do all of those slitting saws!!! i cant believe you had all of them just lying around!

    keep up the awesome work!

That made me laugh :D :D

The first gimpse of the water channels being cut just left me in awe. I really hope you manage to pull this off, because at the moment - well.. it's friggin amazing :thumb:

Oh man that's a great idea...I'm looking at my P4 and I have space for one of those, I'd pay money for that block if you decided to retail those...

    A true masterpiece Limur 6.
Just one question? How long have you been working with metal?
Your work is incredibly clean =)

Hey guys, I'm back, with an update too.

Hey guys, sorry for that quiet month, things have been totally insane at work with people going on vacation and me just covering their asses while their gone. Still kinda crazy but just enough time for me to squeeze in a few things here and there.

I've been machining with metal for no more than a few years, and only one of those years was truly devoted to CNC. Mainly alu, but some steel, brass, copper, and other metals here and there, and a lot of plastics mixed in between. So not very long.

So, to the update. Frankly I am bit ashamed to present this update, since by now I should be done and it's really a minor update. But I did solve one major problem. I fixed the window!

It's in there nice and tight, I think a little too tight. Left slightly less than half a thousandths of an inch interference to give a nice snug press fit. Problem with that is that I can't ever get it out if I wanted to, but hopefully that'll never happen. If you look REEAAL close, you can see little semi-circles near the screw holes. Those are the bottoms of the counterbores, just that there's a thin foil piece of alu covering the hole.

Here's a closeup of where the plexi and alu come together on the sealing side. It's pretty flat, I can't feel if there's a seam there or not even if I run a nail across.

Here's the other side of the window

Gave the assembly a quick turn down to see what it looked like, and yep, no seam, just the way I wanted (much better than having that ugly plexi layer showing). A few chatter marks showing from too high a speed, but can easily fix that.

    Another perspective.

    Enjoy

Surprisingly, not that heavy. With the fixture block on (the big 1/2" thick piece of alu bolted onto the bottom that I use to grip onto so I don't leave vise marks all over the piece), it weighs in at about a pound. With the fixture block off, after the extra 1/4" of outside is turned down, and the fins installed, I imagine it would weigh around 3/4 lb.

No not really. Just been really freaking busy at work. Also, more important things going on at the machine shop ... something akin to the BLEEX system that the guys in CalTech made, except, purely passive. Also having some money problems, college loans are just killing me at the moment.

But until things cool down, this project is indefinately suspended.
