I've just read about this. can anyone tell me how hard it is ? My soldering skills arnt too bad but obviously I dont want to go and spend alot of money and totaly mess it up.
There's a software-only mod available (so no warranty-violation), but sometimes the extra pixel-pipelines seem to give graphical glitches. Check this thread for details.
Wow im pritty covinced this is what i want to do now £130 for a 9700 pro if i OC it a bit. Sounds worth it to me.
You need an old RED Sapphire radeon 9500 for this to work. I got mine to work with the hardware mod. the hardware mod is VERY hard to do because of the size of the resistor you are resoldering. Oh, and the hardware mod has a lower survival rate but better quality results.
9500 non pro with new pcb can be turned into 9500 pro .. morphine: what do you mean better quality results?
public: nope .. my softmod should do exactly the same as the hardware mod.. except for changing the card name .. so i'm wondering what he means .. nah i'm not some zapwizard ripoff .. i have that name since ages ..
Ive just heard of more software mods giving texture errors. nothing to do with quality, sorry wrong words chosen.
Ive just got my card today and its the one with the L shape memory placing. I've all ready played UT2003 with high everything and im just about to install the cat3.1 drivers. What software can you use to overclock a radeon?
I bought a new radeon 9500 Sapphire 128MB DDR version today from work.. may have to see if this hack works.. only didnt get the 9700Pro cause 1) None in stock 2) Not enough money
Well.. its the black PCB and I tried it out.. Graphical corruption then my system locked up.. ahh well.. I can only try Still a bloody sweet card though!
There's one with a red PCB coming my way, it was the last one and all the way from canada (to Belgium), so it must be a good one! 40% chance but I'm feeeeling lucky
