Here's my dilema: as a massive id fanboy, I've been really looking forward to Rage. Now it's arrived though, I'm in a pickle as to which system I should play it on. Here are the options: PC - Pentium 4 single core, ATI HD 4770, 2Gb RAM, 1440x900 monitor. Pros: Proper controls, better graphics potential, eventual mod support Cons: Could play like a dog, or worse Xbox 360 - Elite with harddrive, full HD TV Pros: Graphics will be smooth and playable, if not as pretty as they could be Cons: Controls limited, no mod support So here are my options: Buy it for the PC and hope it plays well enough Buy it on the 360 and live with the limited controls Wait for six months until I can afford to upgrade my PC and then buy it, but obviously this means waiting until mid next year and having everyone else finish with the game before I get around to playing it. What does everyone reckon?
Just buy the 360 version if you want to play it now http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-rage-face-off You'll get a better experience on the 360 then on your current pc
360 It'll have more resale value so you can punt it in 6 months once you've got your new rig and you can bump the settings to 11
360, since your PC is very slow. It'll look far better on 360. Don't worry too much about the controls, you're only killing the AI.
I would get the 360 version. A lot of people seem to be having issues with the PC version. It looks great on the console, whereas I don't think it is making the most of a good PC. I chose the 360 version over the PC version and I am glad I did. The only issue I have with the 360 version is that you still have to swap disks even when installed; Disk 1 : Part One Disk 2 : Part Two Disk 3 : Multiplayer
With the state of the PC release according to what i've seen on the internet i'd be tempted to stick with the 360 in this case.
Buy now for 360 so you can play a newly released game. Then later down the line when you've upgraded your existing system or bought a new one, re-buy Rage for cheap (should be easier to play on a pc in a few months all being well!!). So in summary. Buy both
i myself prefer pc games mainly as the quality and experience has always been far better for me, if your pc can handle the game then i would recommend buying on pc as it is most likely going to be cheaper than console, apparently on the Xbox 360 it comes with 3 disks so if you don't want to be messing around changing disks go with pc.
I've heard even on a decent PC it takes ~1 to load textures when moving fast IMO, I wouldn't buy it at all. The reviews I've heard aren't good
I just completed it on Hard mode on the 360 - missed a few things and clocked up just over 25 hours. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend it. It's not a massive leap forward in gaming technology, but it is a very decent shooter.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. As much as it just feels unatural, I think the 360 is the way to go. I'd practically need a new PC to do it justice, and I simply can't afford that at the moment. Also, hopefully by the time I can upgrade the mod scene will be in full swing. If Doom 3 is anything to go by, they'll still be modding for it in 2018.
yeah it's fixed with some cvar tweaks though.. issue I have is with ati and their driver fix.. I get lags- ended up putting a older driver in 11.6 and disabling catalyst ai.. the textures load in fine.. I'll post up a short video here's a link to the steam forum.. made a few adjustments to his v2.0 config and it runs as good as it can and looks good.. getting around 30fps without fraps running http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=25524360#post25524360 http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2154053 run the ragecfg.cfg and this in the shortcut Code: +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +cvaradd g_fov 15 +r_swapInterval 1 +vt_maxPPF 8 also had issues with the new update.. reverted back- it'll run without cat ai but it still has the crazy texture issues- just finish the game with the old ati 11.6 drivers I guess
